Yes I bought a few books already. It was good to build my vocabulary. I think I also need a teacher to explain some of the rules of grammar.

maybe you're hanging out in the wrong places? don't you have relatives here who can introduce you to some people?

Well, I guess Cebuanos are friendly enough... But books can help a lot...

DonCebu, i salute your enthusiasm for learning our dialect. But there's really no need to get a private tutor, why ??

    - most cebuanos in the business field knows and is using english during transactions

    - most cebuanos ( students, professionals ) speak fluent english

    - bisaya is easy to learn

    - don't worry about finding friends, you've already made some here in istorya.net, we are eager to help you out with your *problem*

.. regarding friends, you can join our activities and see for yourself that talking the bisaya dialect isnt a big problem as you might expect.

.. as long as you understand bisaya, no need to learn how to talk bisaya.

tip: structure of sentences and subject-verb agreement are sort of the same as english standards.

back then when i was new in cebu.....i just talked to some people and in 1 day i was speaking cebuano fluently...tutors are not needed....just communicate with people you know..

note: make sure when talking to the "natives", insist that they don't talk to you in English all the time. i have a friend who did not grow up here. not it's more than 10 years that he's here and he understands every Cebuano word i say but still can't talk straight Cebuano. it was our fault that we talk to him in english the whole time.

I know some of the basics already but would really like to expand my vocabulary and grammar.

I am more comfortable learning with private lessons at my home to start and would rather have a one on one teacher. I am available to meet 2 times a week and once a month I can practice in a group setting if you have other students.

So if you think you will be able to teach me Cebuano and have a study plan please contact me with your rates and days you are available.
