.. reading while lying down: it's the same principle as reading while riding. your eyes needs to be relaxed while doing some "work". Work of the eyes pertains to the eyes focusing on some near object. I've had many patients who has refractive errors due to reading while lying down and their main reason for doing so, is it's relaxing on their back, but not to the eyes. ehehehe.

.. but don't worry, refractive errors develop gradually, but in some cases it might be abrupt due to some reason.

.. it doesnt matter if you don't have any sleep for 5 days and you'll take a bath - it won't affect your eyes.

    - these are the ONLY things ( being done daily ) that can affect your eyes:

    - too much near work, near work meaning, using your eyes with your target at just 16 to 20 inches in front of you

    - reading with no light on your reading material

    - reading while riding on a jeepney/car

    - improper posture during reading ( lying down )

.. again, it's ok to take a bath even if you havent slept for days - it won't affect your eyes.

.. fingolfin - your istoryan optometrist
..kana ila ingon na madaot ang mata kung gikan basa ug tan-aw computer/TV mang hilam-os daun kay madaot daw ang mata ana..

    ..naa kay mastorya ani doc?..

@yurnero, yes i'm obsessed with Tolkien's world, nyeheheheh

@kamikaze, actually it's the near-work that's been doing the damage to your eyes, not the washing of the face. Our eyes doesnt share the principle of stress with the rest of the muscles of the body. Coz this is where this false concept originated. In our muscles, like the muscles in our leg, if we walk too much or ran for about 2 hours, then we'll wash off our feet, our leg muscles will be fatigued or go into a state of muscle-weakness or in bisaya " MAPASMO ". But, that doesnt apply to our eyes. And there's this condition called blepharospasm in which your eyelids involuntarily moves or even twitch, this may also be one of the culprits for the said "ma deadz ang eyes kung maligo walay tulog" ..

@m4a1 .. yes, you got the whole idea, it's the extra effort that's been contributing to the stress. And about those people who's used to reading while lying down, well, sooner rather than later, they will develop astigmatism or myopia ( near sighted ).

.. that moisturizer you're referring to is artificial tears, it is prescribe to people who has dry-eye syndrome. it's a condition in which the tear-film in your eyes evaporates faster than normal. Sometimes dry-eye can be remedied by excessive blinking, but you'll look like a nervous-person when you always do that, hehehe. That's why it's best to give artificial tears.

.. nope, it's not that your eyes got literally dry due to some random cause, no. Dry eyes is a condition, well, causes of it varies such as low integrity of your tear film, the tear drainage is sabotaged or maybe improper function of the lacrimal gland.

.. hhmmm, no need to do that. just look at a distant object and your eyes will be relaxed.

.. hehehe... don't worry about texting in the dark, your phone screen is well illuminated anyway, so no problem with that no matter how dark your surroundings are, as long as the object you're viewing is well-lit, then no probs
