Thread: Raid!

  1. #11

pre-defined ang RAID arrays. di ka kabuot-buot ug name. kung different capacities ang imong i RAID, ang i recognize sa system is ang gamay nga capacity so mausik ang space sa bigger capacity sa hard drive. naay RAID sa PATA hard drives, usually laing nga controller sa RAID, dili ang IDE controller gamiton.

    @poldopunk
kelangan ba sad ka ug at least paspas nga cpu to have RAID setups (like mirroring)?
can u apply 2 RAID setups?
and if u go to My Computer, dli nimo makita ang mirror nga HDD (as if isa ra imong HDD jud) ?
and if the other HDD fails, automatic na cya mugamit sa isa (kato mirror) ?
and is there a way to identify which one failed?
and wat if u want to discontinue mirroring, and just use the other HDD, pwede sad?

hehe dghan2 jud na pangutana sir hehe..

yes, simulatenous ang pag write sa second drive

nope, as long as the chipset supports it, you can raid even with a celeron processor[/quote]
and if u go to My Computer, dli nimo makita ang mirror nga HDD (as if isa ra imong HDD jud) ?
usa ra hard drive imong makita sa naka raid nga HDDs pero kung multiple say 3, ang duha nga naka RAID kay mugawas as usa ang ikatulo nga HDD kay standard ra nga hard drive
and if the other HDD fails, automatic na cya mugamit sa isa (kato mirror) ?

the raid utility will report that the array has been degraded which means, 1 of the hard drive isn't working properly, the system will continue to boot and once na replace na ang hard drive -- mo rebuild rapud siya automatically.
and wat if u want to discontinue mirroring, and just use the other HDD, pwede sad?
ok ra ni siya for mirroring but for striping, di jud pwede -- wagtang jud tanan data nimo.

advantage ra jud cguro sa servers ang ssd in raid 1 and 2 tungod sa ilang response time and speed. speed is of the essense man sad para servers.

karon pa lagi ko anang raid 5
3 hdds in parallel ra na?

  5. #15
RAID 5 is combination of RAID 0 or RAID 0+1 with an additional hard drive for parity.

so is it like 2 in parallel and 1 in series with the other in parallel?

  7. #17
no, the extra hard drive does error checking (parity) so bisa'g naka stripe and duha ka hard drive, naa ka fault tolerance kay naa ma'y mo parity-check as compared to purely RAID 0 nga wala jud tolerance.

thanks for the answers sir poldopunk.. hehe naa pjd illustration.. bt anyway, sa mirroring ko nainterested jd..
nother few questions, if u already hav 1 hardisk (nga naa nay mga sulod) pwede pa ba nimo apasan og isa to mirror the other?
and does the mirroring process need/consume additional RAM ug makadugang ba ni cya sa CPU load?

  9. #19
no you cannot create an array with an existing operating system installed. it has to be a clean installation. as for RAM consumption, naa siguro but its outside the operating system since ang southbridge chipset (ICH9/ICH10R) man ang ga handle sa controller.

dili ba mo naog ang performance ani tungod sa parity checking?
