Some of you are missing the point here. Before you get employed in a company, naturally, you have to know the policies, rules and regulations the company implements. Thus, we have to assume that these people are willing employees, and have known about these constraints prior to getting employed at that Japanese Canon office. They are fully aware of what they got themselves into. And perhaps, there are several "unknowns" to this arrangement, like:

    a) These employees could just be really, really workaholics (this could be part of their job examination/interview), and don't mind being prodded along at all.

    b) Perhaps they're getting paid a higher salary than if they were employed in the SAME position in another company

The corridor was designed to detect whether employees
were walking at least 5 meters for every 3.6 seconds.

Ingon ana man jud na basta japanese companies.

Nagtrabaho ko sauna sa japanese manufacturing. Ang mga operator dli jud na mo lingkod. Reasons:
    1. Sigi ug tabi
    2. Mag duka2x

Also sa mga japanese, walking in fast pace means your doing something or busy. Walking slow only means your slacking off.

    this won't work for me..
there are times when I walk around in a slow/normal pace when I'm planning or thinking of a way to solve problems instead of just sitting around..it helps me think clearly that way, plus it could help me exercise my legs...
