can you try to re detect the drive from device manager? its simple highlighting the drive and pressing delete on the keyboard, then, click on scan hardware changes to re-detect it. this is usually effective after performing the guided help (upper, lower filters in the registry) from microsoft.

doesn't matter whether there's a cd/dvd on the drive, just redetect the drive itself, let's see.
Vista man diay nah bay noh?!... well, usa sa mga common problem sa mga callers sa call center is ang uban kay di na mugana ang uban nilang hardware, reason is automatic updates sa Windows Vista. Naay mga drivers nga i-update ang imu auto update nga mo-tend nga mag-padisfunction or unhandled na sa imung hardware ang new drivers...
Basin ing-ana pud ang rason sa imuha...
- Try to download the drivers of that certain dvd hardware and install
- Try turning off the automatic updates for 3 or 6 days
- If mo work gane nga nag-off imung auto update then mao nah xa...
