    This article should help:

    DVD-R:
Benefits: Better DVD playback compatiblity within home DVD players.
Drawbacks: Older technology and less money behind the format means that they come out with faster media and burner technology slower. You will frequently see DVD burners that will support (for instance) 16X DVD+R and only 8X DVD-R.

    DVD+R:
Benefits: Faster speeds, more inovations like Double Layer discs (8.5 GB)
Drawbacks: Will not play some home DVD players. If you know your home DVD player will play DVD+Rs then there is no reason to not use them.

I personally use DVD-R for creating DVD movies since it's compatible with old dvd players. I use DVD+R / RW for data storage because of the faster write times. Check the specs sa mga DVD RW drive on the market today.. generally mas kusog ang +R/+RW write speeds kaysa -R/-RW. Cheaper sad ang DVD+RW DL kaysa mga DVD-RW DL.

DVD+R cannot be written as DVD-R but can be bitset to DVD-ROM for higher compatibility.

i use mainly DVD+R because of better write quality than DVD-R on my writer. standalone compatibility is not also a problem because of most of the newer DVD players support both formats.

I mainly use DVD-ROM cause it has no problems when playing with my dvd player, and being red by other DVD Drives. DVD+R well some them won't be compatible or has some reading problems with other Drives, even though the drive can read DVD+R.

of course, you can copy the data from DVD+R to DVD-R and vice versa. what i was getting at is you can't change the properties of a DVD+R media to a DVD-R when burning as what i understood by your previous post.

i think you meant DVD-R as you can only perform bitsetting to DVD-ROM on a DVD+R media. if DVD-R works well for you, i'd suggest you stick with it.

I use DVD-ROM for my DVD-Player and for burning Games.

May ask what actually is the format of DVD-ROM. When burned in DVD+R.

all DVD media, DVD-ROM/DVD-RAM/DVD+R(W)/DVD-R(W)/DVD+R DL/DVD-R DL, have what is known as a booktype. this is a 4-bit field written at the beginning of the media which identifies what type of disc it is. in the case of DVD-R, this information is already pre-written when the discs are produced. however for DVD+R, there is no limit for writing in the booktype field.

this means that when you burn a DVD-R disc, you can't change its booktype to DVD-ROM but for DVD+R, you can either set it to DVD-ROM or leave it as DVD+R. physically, the disc is still DVD+R but with a DVD-ROM booktype. this may increase its compatibility with standalone players and other DVD drives which can only read DVD-ROM or DVD-R(W).

Hmm.... I can set my DVD-R DVDs to DVD-ROM format.
