GMA Network wins 12 awards in UPLB's Gandingan 2009!
GMA Network added another feather to its cap after it reaped a total of 12 awards in the Gandingan 2009: UPLB Isko't Iska's Broadcast Choice Awards.
Gandingan 2009 is the first award-giving ceremony in the field of broadcasting instituted by Community Broadcasters' Society (UPCBS) of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB).
It pays tribute to the best broadcast programs that air over TV and radio. The awarding ceremony was recently held at the D.L. Umali Hall, UPLB Campus, Laguna.
Mike Enriquez won the
Best Investigative Program Host award, while Imbestigador bagged the
Best Investigative Program award. Jiggy Manicad, GMA Senior News Producer, copped the
Best Field Reporter plum; Vicky Morales was named
Best Public Service Program Host; and her program Wish Ko Lang! was awarded
Best Public Service Program.
Meanwhile, the longest-running documentary program, I-Witness, won in two categories: the
Most Development-Oriented Public Affairs Program Category and the Most Development-Oriented Documentary Program Category.
One of its hosts, Howie Severino, won the
Best Documentary Filmmaker award. Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) was recognized as the
Most Development-Oriented Magazine Program. Program host Jessica Soho got two awards - the
Best Public Affairs Program Host and the Best Magazine Program Host. Meanwhile, GMA's sister channel Q Channel 11 was named the
Most Development-Oriented TV Station.

GMA Network News and Public Affairs Reap Local and International Accolades!
The local and international awards just keep on coming for GMA Network News and Public Affairs. For close to three quarters of 2009, this division of GMA Network continued to reap prestigious local and international awards.
Just recently, the Philippines’ Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) named Jessica Soho, GMA Vice President for News and host of KAPUSO MO, JESSICA SOHO, as Best Female Host.
BALITANGHALI was chosen as the Best News Program, while I-WITNESS’ “Ambulansyang de Paa” by Kara David was conferred the Best Public Affairs Show award. Environmental program BORN TO BE WILD won the Special Award for Promoting Environmental Protection.
The 2009 Lasallian Scholarum Awards, on the other hand, recognized Howie Severino’s documentary, “Papa, Papa, Paano Ka Ginawa?”, as the Outstanding Televised Feature on Youth and Education. It was shown over the longest-running, most-awarded documentary program on Philippine television �“ I-WITNESS.
Other finalists for the category were Sandra Aguinaldo’s “Kapatiran sa Laman” and “Gangsta Girls” which both aired on I-WITNESS as well.
Early this year, the Corporal Abeto story by Senior News Producer Jiggy Manicad won for 24 ORAS the New York Festivals Gold World Medal for the Coverage of an Ongoing Story. The report detailed the fierce encounter of the rebel groups MILF and the Abu Sayyaf against the marines and the PNP Provincial Mobile Group during last year’s elections in Tipo Tipo, Basilan. The encounter took the life of Corporal Angelo Abeto after a mortar exploded right on his head.
24 ORAS also took home the Silver World Medal in the Best Newscast Category for its coverage of Lanao Attacks. It documented the assault made by the MILF in Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte on August 18, 2008. REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK’S (RN) “Pinays for Export: The Asian *** Trafficking Trail, meanwhile, won the Bronze World Medal for Best Public Affairs Program.
Other finalists include EMERGENCY’s “Jumper Kids/Battered Children for Social Issues, Current Events, and Kara David’s I-WITNESS documentary “Bundok na Kristal” for Community Portraits.
In the 2009 US International Film and Video Festival, RN’s “Lunok Droga” won the Silver Screen Award, while RN’s “Pinays for Export” and Jay Taruc’s “Batang Langoy”, aired on I-WITNESS, were awarded Certificates for Creative Excellence.

Once again, GMA Network's high caliber communication programs won recognition as the Kapuso Network received five honors from the 2009 Philippine Quill Awards held recently at the Philippine International Convention Center’s Forum 3.
GMA Marketing and Productions Inc, received the most coveted Excellence Award for its GMA Christmas Short Film Festival. The short film festival showcased 13 different 20-minute short films the real meaning of Christmas for the Filipinos.
Award of Merits were given to Earth Day 2009, "Project Gift," "Aiming Higher: the GMA Annual Report" and GMA Network Educational Studio Tours.
Recognized in the Advertising category, the Earth Day 2009 reinforces GMA’s image as Kapuso ng Kalikasan and reminds everyone that little things we do can make a big difference in saving the earth. Also cited in the same category, "Project Gift" is more than a Christmas station ID as it captured how Kapuso stars and personalities genuinely shared precious moments with orphans and special children.
"Aiming Higher: the GMA Annual Report" bagged the merit award in the publications category as it effectively documented the Kapuso Network’s commitment to its shareholders through superior entertainment and responsible delivery of news and information.
On the other hand, the GMA Network Educational Studio Tours was recognized in the Customer Relations category.
Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the annual Philippine Quill Awards is considered as the most prestigious award in the field of business communications in the Philippines.

GMA NETWORK REAPS MAJOR AWARDS IN 2009 CMMA
GMA Network won several major awards at the recently concluded 31st Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).
Topping GMA Network’s list of honors is the public affairs program
Wish Ko Lang, which was elevated to CMMA’s Hall of Fame after winning in the same category four times. Hosted by award-winning broadcast journalist Vicky Morales, Wish Ko Lang bagged the Best Public Service Program for the years 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
The award-winning
I-Witness: GMA Documentaries was chosen as this year’s Best Adult Education/cultural program for its episode “Batang Langoy” hosted by Jay Taruc. The documentary tackled the unforgettable struggle of the Magalumbi island children in Iloilo who have to swim home from school every day.
The longest running morning talk show,
SIS, hosted by the unbeatable trio of
Janice de Belen, Gelli de Belen and
Carmina Villaroel, has proven that quantity works alongside quality by winning the Best Talk Show award. The Best Entertainment Program (Special Citation), meanwhile, was bagged by the award-winning Sunday concert TV,
SOP.
Q-11, GMA Network’s sister station, also received glorious recognition as it won Best Children’s Program for
Kids on Q and Best Public Service Program for
Reunions.

Nagmamahal Manay, Gina of DZBB won best Drama Program while radio show
Talk to Papa of Campus Radio-RGMA Cagayan De Oro received a special citation trophy for Best Counseling Program.
