hye guys, according to my mentor. software testers have the higher salary than a programmer. wayback before, I thought that programmers or even IT related field works have a higher salary compared to davao City. But I was wrong, although it varies accordingly to skills and level of expertise.

Since Cebu City is one of the most industrialized city in our country and have the industry in ICT, I think the rate of IT work relation must be in above minimum.

Its my opinion since I belong and work to IT related fields but my salary does not fit to it and maybe some of us(who experienced it) feel the same way too. hehehehe

DIli ana sayon mg IT kay YOU should have the talent, skills and compassion. I suggest, choose according to what you like/love to do to the rest of your life, not what you need. In IT related works such as programmer, network admin, software testers etc.... ang mga company chooses the best skills and talents mao muagi jud ka dapat sa buslot sa dagum para mahimong the best and kani is lisud pud achieve.

    Default Best Laid Plans

I'll be all ears listening to your sob stories. talk to me about not having planned for the future. I hope you won't still be living in the past by then, living the "high-life"...

or better yet, have your kids call me and I'll gladly point them to the above post and show them how "prepared" their dad was in life when he was 25.

*the above statement goes to all those who think like you do... just a simple FYI...
Ouchie . I'm definitely all for planning. But you do know the story about what happens to the best laid plans right? I just couldn't resist jumping on this thread coz na-igo gyud ko as in!!! Plans are useless without the respect and trust of those you will deal with. So I suggest finding trustworthy and loyal people first then you'll succeed with any plan you make. Please be patient with me, and hope you read my.... CAUTIONARY TALE lol.

I worked for my family for most of my life. We had a computer shop near T.C., I managed it. We had a beauty parlor after that and I managed it. We shifted to passenger jeepneys and I managed that. We then went into Equipment Sales and I managed that as well. All for free!!! I did it all for family. Who else in the world could you trust unconditionally, right? They would do the same for me, right? This before college. My parents should relax and join clubs.

After college I had an accident. I managed to work for 1 yr until it became so bad my parents offered to help me if i come home to cebu. They said we had no money so I had to wait and can I please manage the business in the meantime? lol. They said they were planning to give it to me. After a year of continual sales increase, they started to build some apartments. I asked, what about me? Son, we need to look to the future. This is for family, my parents said. OK ( sure)! I had chronic pain then, but heck anything for family. They paid me zilch but i needed to finance the changes i wanted so I worked for Sykes. I learned outside my comfort zone for the business. I learned programming, webdesign, graphic art, a whole lotta things. Bittorrent is your friend lol. I developed a business plan for a internet cafe business. This was before the current boom. My brother would be my partner coz my family paid me zilch and I had no money there. My earnings in Sykes I flowed back to the family biz. I was planning for the future. A few months later my brother paid me for "installing the internet cafe" and I asked him ...why if I'm a partner? Soon after he didn't consider me a partner because he already paid me my "fee" and because I didn't give any capital. Anyway this is for family and didn't I have the business already?( Fine). A few years later my parents still didn't have the money even with the business booming and the aparments earning. I was working my ass off for that surgery money. I developed a database program for businesses like ours. I developed a security surveillance system. I even made the website and adverts for the apartments . We have to savings for the future said the parents. This is important. I had severe pain. Bone fragments in my spine. This is for family ( OK I can wait). I did have the business even if i remit everything. I was still working with sykes too, so the future is secure. I made software products, developed marketing plans and marketing materials. I then made plans for an RTW store. I still had zilch and guess who wants to be my partner? Same thing happens, I get left out. I did have the business so how about i help him. You help family he said. ( Perfect)! Seven yrs later, they consented to surgery! I quit sykes planning for a pain-free future!

They looked for the cheapest clinic they could find and it only cost them 1 month's earning of the business. I almost died in recuperation (no one was with me). My father bought an SUV a month after( apparently they had money.. just not for me). My parents gave the business to my brother. Now I'm the slacker. Look at what your brother accomplished! He has an internet cafe! He has an RTW store! You're 30 and you don't have any savings! You're sponging off us. I resigned.

Even with the way things happened. I have no regrets. I'm not ashamed for standing up for the concept of family. But I find it hilarious that the business is bankrupt, the internet cafe is in disrepair, the SUV a total wreck, and the RTW store faltering after just 6 months. This time when my parents say they have no money, it's true lol. I'm going to work for a callcenter again. I'm working for myself this time. The time I had with sykes was the most fulfilling i've ever had. I had fun. I learned alot. I worked my ass off but i got paid for it. So do you I imagine.

Live, Have Fun, but also develop yourself. Money is easy if you have skills.
Plans fall apart with people who don't respect and love you. Even if they're family.
Get paid for doing your job. It's not the money, it's the respect. If you don't get the money you earn disregard.. then contempt.

Life is never clearcut but I hope when the time comes for a life decision this will help you. Cheers.

    @oconnel ...

Sorry to hear your story bro. I hope it doesn't happen to the rest of us.

Nywayz back to the topic, as a Senior Software Engineer (Firmware) for a Cebu IT company more than 3 years ago, I earned more than 60K++ before I left the country.

Sa gawas noon dagko gyud ang rates sa IT, you can earn more than 3 times of that amount or more than 200k if you factor in bonuses.

If you work as a freelancer (programmer or web developer positions), you can earn as much as 100k++, most especially if your clients are overseas. There are two types of freelancers, the common are the ones looking for clients, while the other one are the ones looked by clients.

If you are creating a product out of an idea, you have the potential of earning millions in the future. But, that if your product would click on the market. Research about the biographies of the creators of facebook, youtube or even google.

Working and hooked by a company here in the Philippines most likely does not let you earn much. If you have a computer at home and have internet connection, explore and you see a lot of opportunities.
