Increase demand will almost always increase Oil prices..... but then again, there are also things like pseudo-increase, caused by oil players manipulating the prices regardless of supply and demand....
@DeathFox: to be honest, i AM biased against PGMA but there are actual basis' for that. i'll give you two: she used her "economist" skills to benefit herself even if it meant hurting the country, though she hid that really well apparently. she is also a poser and was not above flaunting her position even if it meant trouble (remember when she taunted rallyists to come to Malacanang and "dethrone" her? she threw gasoline at the fire instead of working to calm people down)
regarding lowering taxes, that can only do so much to control the cost of oil in this country. how far will you have to lower taxes to compensate the high prices that are being set by the oil companies? while i do not like taxes, they are a fact of life in a society that follows needs a government.
PaYaso is right. i actually created this thread focusing on the "global" oil price problem, not only of the situation in the philippines (and i did not think i would really have to point that out).
the kind of thinking that you are pointing out - where we think only of our backyard and ignore the larger world where we all belong in - is unfortunately something that a lot of people really need to work out of.
the oil price problem IS global and the solution will need to be global. i posted this thread to open up a discussion about the cause of high fuel prices and possibly find/create some solutions which we might find helpful. i'd appreciate it if you kept to the topic.
in an effort to keep this thread on the right track, i'll even conditionally concede the point that pnoy (abnoy as you call him) is contributing to the problem locally by refusing to decrease taxes. it goes completely against what i believe to be logical and reasonable but, to keep you from derailing the thread, i'll give you that.
so will you please stop derailing the thread now?

@cardo: i find it fascinating how their original target was in afghanistan but they slowly expanded from that region using whatever excuse they could find. they invaded iraq because of the "possible existance" of WMD's in the area. did they ever bring proof of WMD's their?
what do powerful people want? more power.
Oil prices are high in the Philippines as is the same in the world market. We are not a command-economy like Russia or North Korea so of course it is the market that dictates the prices of oil.
And take note, crude oil have to be imported to the Philippines unlike sugar, food and other locally produced resources. So this type of resource is the most reflective of how the demand pulls it's price abroad. I myself am not surprised about this. The modern world is powered by petroleum and just as how important coal was back in the Industrial Revolution, Petroleum/Oil is one of the most important resources we have now.
It's just natural for prices to be high.
mahal ang bintahan sa international market, maong
mo mahal usab ang fuel sa national/local markets.
@leonell: according to what i've researched, the high fuel prices may not actually be natural but may be artificially inflated by those who are in control. the current situation with the high fuel prices is reminiscent of the enron scandal i think - where those controlling the distribution of a commodity are purposefully withholding supply from the markets to artificially increase prices.
@balandido: the question is why is it expensive in the international markets?
balandido and leonell's post heavily underlines how tightly intertwined the national/local market is to the global economy and, by extension, the economies of command-economies like the US. after the globalization thrust of the previous administrations, it seems we've opened our economy to global rape and pillaging.
im using the most common sense that i havei did read the thread title carefully as what binarypill states.who is not making sense now?
no matter how we concentrate on the local problem regarding this issue its totally out of our control the only thing we can do as what you always say is lowering the taxes but that doesnt solve the "cause" of the problem. the thing is, this is "Global" if you can understand that. and i know you do, so better channel your hatred appropriately![]()
