Cebu Toy Convention

toy convention lisod kaayo ni sya buhaton. kinahanglan ta ug mga organizers ug sponsors ug kita kita ra di gyud mag silbi. LAhi ang market nato diri compared sa manila. Mas daghan sila didto unya daghan pod kugihan mu organize. It takes a lot of effort to pull this off.

Based on my experience, it's the Gundam Plastic Model Kits collectors who are active in displaying their toys mostly in cosplay events. They're also the most un-secretive group I've met. If you ask questions, then you'll surely get an answer. As for the other toy collectors, I must assume that they feel it's not too safe to display their collections when the display areas aren't secure from physical contact or accidental falls. This is true especially for those who own mechas and anime figures that cost at the minimum 3K each.

This idea has also been discussed so many times before and I tried to help in one possible event before but it truly is difficult to find sponsors for toycons here. It's probably easier to organize a cosplay event (main crowd drawer) and then just supplement it with a toycon.

Anyway, good luck to those willing to do this, I'll just drop by and take photos.

I only have one comment re the current row, How can we expect to have a toycon kung naa nag-away?" I heard horror stories of toy collectors actually practicing martial arts on each other over toys. Sigh ...

actually pre seryus ni akong tumong. my frined from davao nag organize ug toycon didto: 2nd Mindanao toycon.. mao iya ko gi incourage to have a toycon dri cebu.. mga ngilngig mn unta diay kuno ang mga collector dri cebu matod pa niya..

saon taman nga na mai usa nga ni simang ug storya. i dunno ug na suya bana xa or what... well thats simple physics, in every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. so i think you know what to expect..

ug ganahan kag tapok2x spread the word sa imng mga kaila.. kai ako wa mn koi lain nailhan nga toy collector dri cebu. ug dili pod ko available anang sabao kai na koi date anah.

crisostomo: you organized/suggested a toy con for the sake na magkailhanay ta, but can't afford to even attend a simple meetup? want collectors to encourage sharing their stuff on public and promote the hobby, yet you just at no basis make accusations to hobbyist sharing there stuff here? di ba mura'g contradicting ra imong intention sa imong "gi-pakita" dire so far? no pun intended bai ha.. wa ko nagdumot nimo hehehe (i don't even know you hehehe).. preo mao lang na ako na-obserbahan.. can't really blame why wakeupfever came up with that rather uncalled for reply..

but i like your intention of 're-igniting' (it's been years since collectors wanted to have an official toy convention here) the thought.. personally, what we only need is someone who has an access or contact man lang with venues na pwede ma holdan sa toy-con. I have friends from mindanao, specifically from davao, and one big reason why they were able to have a successful conventions didto is that fortunately one of their peers in the hobby happens to be connected sa owner sa mall. mao na naka start sila didto ug convention without really the extra leverage of sponsores.

mao raman na kinahanglan dire pud.. something to just jump-start this.. once makasuway ta once/twice, and makita sa mga 'businezzzmeen" ang prospect income with sponsoring events like this, the succeeding conventions would definitely be easier to organize.. i presume your so called friend told you about that??

I don't think it matters imo ba na or iya or it's from the net. the pictures posted are nice and we like looking at them it's should be "all good" right?

as for the main topic again the source shouldn't really matter the topic is valid- it would be nice to have a toy convention. personally though kung pabayaron ko nimo sa display ako na lang na ipalit og duwaan! hehehe

hence, yes, we really do need sponsors but I think as of now we have a hard search in front of us. I think I agree with some here nga it would be better if "hitch" lang usa ta with the other anime/cosplay events here in Cebu (since there are aplenty) 'til we can gather enough momentum to stand on our own...
