I agree, but the title of the thread and the article is misleading. It implies that America must fail. Everyone assumes that China's success will be the end of America but forget that China's economy is the product of American consumerism. America is not going to be Rome. If America was likened to a former superpower, it would be a Britain. The difference is, the American economy is still going to be huge while the Brits will never get their colonies back.

As for China ... whether they like it or not, if they want to lead the world economically, they will need to lead the world in more ways than they have been. As they grow bigger, governments and businesses will realize that they would rather do business with the US. As their people grow richer, they will demand more rights. They will demand more accountability from their government's actions. In the long run, they will be just like the US ... with one big difference ... their population will be their ultimate downfall. It won't happen tomorrow. It won't happen in decades ... but mark my words ... it will happen. We go into a future with less and less for more and more people and the bigger you are, the harder you will fall.

Although it may disappoint some readers to hear this, the US economy is slowly getting stronger. Try looking ahead 20 years... When the oil-rich Middle East has completely run out of clean water (with China also in a clean water crisis). The largest supply of clean water in the world is located guess where? In The USA. Fresh water will replace crude oil as the world's most vauable resource in your lifetime. I wonder if the US will "payback" OPEC with the outrageous prices and limited supply tactics OPEC has flogged the world with for so many years. It will interesting doing business with a dry China, as well...

By the time 20 years from now, China would have probably prepared to harness its own technology to purify its biggest source -South China Sea. Water will be the cause of wars to come. And war is America's friend.

I don’t think so, considering the author is so familiar with America’s well-known financial district the Wall Street. His analysis and economic forecast has its weight with US current economic downturns and financial woes. Look around, the evidence of a withering US economy is everywhere.

I would love to hear US recovering since our family has a stake on the dollar rates....however, reality is that even US government workers are feeling the pinch....I doubt their SSS and MEDICARE can ever recover.... Its a compounding financial disaster.... The very system of US needs to be overhauled .... US protects its citizenry by requiring employers to give huge benefits to employees...Did that help the US in general? It killed millions of jobs as factories and corporations operate on a simple principle, profits, hence they move to China.... Greedy Bankers and Corporations of America are the ones really controlling the government... Why did China overtake US? Almost all big corporations around the world went to china, since labor is cheap...

When private corporations become too big and powerful most governments will try to break them up in order to avoid a monopoly situation. Countries whose economies are extremely large and thus influential can IMO also present an enormous risk to the world market. This has been demonstrated recently with the American banking collapse. China will soon become a monster economy the likes of which has never before been witnessed and some nations could be fighting catastrophe from mere ripples or speculation based on the policies of one global player. We are entering unknown territory and may be pushing the limits of capitalism.
