Just a thought: I cannot imagine how Engineers and Mathematicians in this thread was not able to evaluate the expression correctly. This may be the result of the not-so-good educational system in the Philippines. Or should I blame the instructors in the Philippines for teaching the wrong way or have failed to teach the correct way or they only work for salary alone and not minding the learning of the students? Or should I blame the students in the Philippines for failing to learn or not wanting to learn?

This is still a long way debate due to the ambiguity of the equation. But it does not mean that people are so dumb if they aren't correctly answer just one question. You'll never know, really.

@flanker, after pila ka years nakarealize jud tawn ko 288 ang answer and still following the mdas rule. after ko nangutana sa akong manghud hehehe

simple: that's because you did not follow the basic MDAS
inorder to get 2

=48/(2*(9+3)) ---> follow the rule and this is the equation

2nd is why would you not simplify 48/2 kung muask nalang ganeh ka ug ingun ana ra kasayun? and last is this, 2(9+3) see that? it's deceiving.
