canvas first before buying a laptop and make sure theirs no os so that its cheaper the asus specs you post is a best for gaming bec of nvidia 1g ddr3 corei3 if you prefer for mobililty go for asus ee pc 1215T amd vsion specs

i've read that asus laptops are actually quite reliable based on an article regarding reliability of laptops. compared to most laptops, i think asus is higher up on the chain. your choice of laptop ASUS K42JA is actually quite good. i think its bang for the buck. best of all, it fits your needs (if you havent purchased it yet seeing as this thread started about 2 months ago). anyhow, ive been reading my fair share of stuff on laptop coz i was also on the hunt for a good laptop. if only i had more cash, i'd get that one too.

i suggest buying in SM. ive been in both ayala and SM and SM has more choices because they have more PC shops and its better to buy cash rather than card. i learned that they give extreme discounts for cash purchases..

oh btw, just to let you know, there's already a sandy bridge laptop for sale here. i think its around 44k (i think you said your budget was 45k). acer 14" and i think it has 2gb dedicated graphics card. i think ati. im not sure i forgot. its in ayala. 600gb hdd i think and 6gb ddr im not sure. i completely forgot because i know i couldnt afford it haha but just incase you're interested in that one, you can check it out. the only thing about it is its an acer laptop. im not really sure but i havent heard of good feedbacks. my niece's laptop kept on hanging after about a year of use and it overheated. my friend's says there's a problem with her lcd and she's only had it for about a year or so. so yeah..

oh and i think you asked something about battery life? for the k series, i think its about 3 hours since it does use up a lot of resources. i think its only the U series that has good battery life.
