^I think the fact that various organizations are contributing for the faster clean up of the oil spill make it all the more easier for all of us. The call of the CBCP to intensify relief in terms of medical and rehabilitation efforts also help in dealing with this issue.

Maybe we could urge the Congress to pass legislation to answer future contingencies like this as well.

Ecologist: Don’t use hair in oil slick cleanup

    By Carla Gomez
    Inquirer

BACOLOD CITY—A Negrense microbial ecologist warned against the use of hair and oil dispersants in cleaning up the oil slick from the sunken MT Solar I.

“If you really want to help Guimaras, don’t cut your hair. Donate biodegradable absorbents instead, like sugarcane trash, corn cobs, rice hull,” said Aidine Galvan, who discussed bioremediation of the MT Solar I oil spill at a forum hosted Friday by the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc. and the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation in Bacolod City.

She pointed out that when persons die and are buried, hair is usually found to be intact long after, when their bodies are exhumed.

She said it would be difficult to dispose of bunker fuel-covered hair, as it will only cause contamination.

On the other hand, biodegradable absorbents covered in oil and placed in a lined pit could be degraded into soil-like material, which can later be used in one’s garden, she said.

^ Maybe an information campaign on what treatment should be facilitated for the clean up efforts as well as on the use of chemical sprays and dispersants to ease public anxiety on their possible health implications.

With the sustained relief, rehabilitation and medical missions along with the collective effort to clean-up the affected areas, we will be over this mess soon.

Its too nice to know that this ROTC CADETS as well as the college students will join to clean up the oil spill. Lahat pla talagang apektado na dito...

I think sa dami ng tumutulong para mabalik sa dati itong GUIMARAS, hindi na matatagalan pa it will be back on its own shape. No more 3-5 or 5-15 years to wait. It only means, if everyone will help, the task will be solved in a short span of time.

Aside from rehabilitation efforts that the government should continue to provide to the residents of the area, the government should also ascertain that justice be served to them. Right now, investigations are being conducted. DOJ is now pursuing legal action for the victims of the oil spill.

Indeed, the government should continue doing such to serve justice to the victims.

Here's another help for the contaminated island. The Aklan province donates P200,000 and six tons of abaca to Guimaras, they said the P200,000 will be used for the victims of the sunken ship and the abaca can be use
to control the spread of the chemical oil slick of M/T Solar 1 to Guimaras coasts.
    story

atleast the government knows that they are not alone making solutions to this BIG problem that we are encountering now. The people they served are also working hand in hand together with them to make it possible that the Island will be useful once again and will bring back its own beauty.

    Helps/concerns...more to come!!!!

The siphoning off of the remaining Oil in the sunken ship will be starting by the third week of October. Officials said that the preparations for the cleaning has almost begun when the other equipments arrived from the recommendation of surveyors of the Japanese survey ship Shensei Maru.

Atleast, those who responsible for this are working already. Its a goodnews that we will not wait for so long until this Oil Spill is gone.
