The 6990 also has its own share of blown up cards if you dig in other forums, but it was after a couple of weeks compared sa Nvidia outright dayun, but who really cares if the 590 or the 6990 blows up, theres no market for those cards.

No market? please explain? The 6990 is a good value card for watercoolers. Aside form blow ups, the 590 has limited OC potential (775 to 800mhz reported while still giving poor bench scores) while the 6990 has been reported to go up to 1Ghz on air and even equaled two GTX 580s SLI on vantage runs. Since waterblocks are yet to be released, expect the 6990s to even higher than that.

Is Nvidia's GeForce GTX 590 3GB the world's fastest graphics card? AMD doesn't think so.

AMD has launched a scathing attack on its graphics rival Nvidia, following the company's claim that it has the 'world's fastest graphics card.'

The clash came as Dave Erskine, senior PR manager for desktop graphics at AMD, penned a hot-headed blog post on AMD's website.

Mr Erskine challenged Nvidia to 'prove it, don’t just say it. Show us the substantiation. Because as it stands today, leading reviewers agree with us ... that the AMD Radeon HD 6990 sits on the top as the world’s fastest graphics card.'

He listed several review sites linking to benchmarks that do indeed favour the Radeon HD 6990 4GB over Nvidia's new flagship card, the GeForce GTX 590 3GB.

However, the majority of the benchmarks are in the form of Futuremark's latest benchmarking suite, 3DMark 11, rather than real-world game tests.

This is at stock. At overclock, the 6990 destroys the GTX 590 since the 590 seems to be limited at 770 to 800mhz overclock while yielding poor benchmarking scores. Anything beyond blows up the card. The 6990 on the other hand have gone to 1Ghz on air. Loud at that frequency, yes, but stable - yes! Reviewers indicated that without the thermal constraints (since waterblocks are still unreleased) the 6990 can still go beyond 1Ghz.

Slowdown cowboy, im not referring to the 6990 alone but both 6990 and 590.
They both exist purely to cater the niche market and either companies dont really profit that much from those cards/market. The market is at the 4k to 15k GPU's

To add insult to injury, it seems that the new drivers for the 590 is rumored to down lock the card even to as slow as 550Mhz while gaming when the VRM reaches a certain threashold. Im not engineer but the 6+2 VRM on the GTX580 is just enough for the card, I was expecting an 8+2 VRM on the 590 but nvidia reduced it down to 4+2 which is trololololol.

I'm in no hurry bro hence the 'please'. That's a polite remark. I don't think I warrant the 'slow down' remark.
If you do think about it, the 6990 does have a market like i said: for watercoolers. Many argue that the 6990 is overpriced and that two 6970s would be slightly cheaper. This is correct since Two 6970s would yield to around $690. But for watercoolers, that means spending $120 per card totaling $930 vs $820 for one 6990.

Also here's a thing to consider:
One 6990 = $700 (@ launch since limited availability. I expect $650 soon with GTX 590 and more avail)
One 6970 = $345
One 6950 = $250
One GTX 580 = $500
One GTX 590 = $700 (don't expect this to go down soon. Why: only EVGA and ASUS are licensed to release this product and a few other for outside US market. Nvidia pretty much wants this to be a limited release SKU and thus holding price)

Now for those using multi-monitor setup - multi-card is a necessity.
At 3 1080p screens on air:
on NVIDIA people pretty much only have these choices
1. GTX 590 - this will cost them $700 but is not enough for these resolutions (5760x1080)
2. GTX 580 SLI - this setup is $1000 and is pretty much the defacto for the Nvidia route
3. GTX 590 QUAD SLI - this setup is gonna cost you a whopping $1400...

on the AMD route:
1. HD6990 - same as GTX 590 but with higher performance cuz of bigger mem and OC potential but still not enough for such res
2. HD6970 Xfire - pretty much same as HD6990
Here are the kickers
3. HD6990 + HD6970 = $1050. At this price point you surpass GTX 580 SLI performance for the same price. here you get Tri-fireX. NVIDIA has no such SLI capability while AMD has!
HERE IS THE BEST SCENARIO
4. HD6990 + HD6950 (mod BIOS to convert to HD6970) = $950!!! NUFF said.

I myself am after the 4th solution with my GTX 260 OC Maxcore as PhysX for my 3rd slot.

hahaha mao mo! ka klaro anang 560 vs 6950 ang pilian..... bitaw gi release na nila ang 6950 na 1gb..which is at par sa price sa gtx 560.. BUT with the same features...so murag 6950 1gb akong paliton ani.. hehehe... dako bah jud kaha ang tabang sa PHYSX over sa ATI...hehehe
