there's a thin line between respect & just being humorous
otherwise if the image of Gov.Gwen, as far as respect is concerned, is as frail as a thin house of glass on a heavy hail storm then I guess they need to defensively react or should I say over react to such humorous remark.

and besides, this event calls for it and it's expected to be entertaining, humorous and being comic is part of it
