Well if the DFA and OWWA are already sending people to Sendai to help, then the students have no choice to wait things out or get out of dodge on their own. But if the problem is similar to what happened in the Middle East when both agencies practically ignored OFWs asking for emergency assistance due to the protests in Egypt and Libya, then that's a different story.

@DeathFox: the risk to rescue workers, at the moment is still minimal. the threat of radiation exposure is there but, for the moment, it is not yet on a catastrophic level. the reason why people are being asked to evacuate is IN CASE it actually does escalate to a catastrophic level.

thus, it actually makes sense to get these people out of there as soon as possible, while it is relatively safe to do so.

they are not brats, they are students. given that they are students, they probably went there to learn, not to be primadonnas. they are not throwing a tantrum, they are desperate for help. their letter uses strong wordings because the situation calls for it. the government is once again caught unprepared and they are paying the price.

of course they are demanding ALL POSSIBLE RESOURCES. focus on the word POSSIBLE. they aren't asking for EVERYTHING. they are asking for the government to send what is POSSIBLE for it to send. which, in the face of everything happening at the moment, is a big fat joke.

they are not receiving any help. that is the problem here.

i'm really hoping you end up in a similar situation as these students are in so that your "screw themselves" line looks you right in the face and says hi.

The fact is, there are already aid workers there. But the help that they are receiving is not the help they are wanting. Beggars can't be choosers. So yeah, they can screw themselves.
how can this student able to do something for their country when even the country itself doesnt help them ...

first this student went to japan to study to seek for better opportunity and education (if im not mistaken those student are scholars or sponsored to study in japan) cause they see that education here in the philippines is not that good compare to other countries like japan and also after they finish they can apply or practice what they learn here in our country..

just like our OFW's, the gov't says they are the hero of the new generation but i heard in the news that 1 OFW say that "we are the new hero but how come we are treated like this?" (incident in libya )

"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"... we had already give so much to our country but the question is, does our country give us what we deserve? now ask your self

@pepponeskie: i AM facing reality here. the reality is that filipinos are too used to excusing the ineptitudes of their government and not holding it accountable! you, on the other hand are just riding on the band wagon of looking down on the government but not doing anything about it.

for your information sir, those students are not beggars they are the BOSS as PNOY said "kayo ang boss Ko".. and if the boss is in trouble they dont beg for help but instead those working for the boss do some action , sa akong tibo-ok kinabuhi wa ko kitag boss nga nagpakalo-oy para tabangan.

and also those student doesn't came up with all this things kung dli gyud grabi ka way ayo ang ilang na experience.

Their complaint is the incompetence of the aid workers right.

Illustration: You have a relative that is severely ill and needs immediate medical attention.

Here comes a nurse who obviously lacks the experience, who is confused, who is shaking, who keeps on asking how will I go about this, who is sweating profusely.

As the family, would you prefer to have that nurse care for your sick relative knowing that he or she has no idea what he is doing because he or she lacks the competence? Would you entrust the patient's life to his or her hands?

the same thing with the aid workers.

If you are the one needing help and you see these aid workers not knowing what to do...even resorting to asking you about what to do...

wouldn't you feel compelled to demand for something better?

If unfortunately, your relative is one of those victims and are part of those asking for more help and someone tells you that your relatives can screw themselves over there....

    Would that change your view?
