In my opinion, i doubt the HDD is broken. It may be just the enclosure that is damaged. Try to open up the drive and connect directly to your PC using ide or sata cable. If it works and you want to keep using it as external, just buy another enclosure. Is it 3.5 or 2.5?

Last time nagpa recover ko ngadto 4K pangayo nila sa recovery sa mga files. They weren't able to retrieve all, but they did their best. That was an 80Gb hard drive nga nasipyat nkog repartition.

I dont know with your case.
