I've been here since November 2009. It's pretty good here, especially that my rent is free coz I'm staying with my aunt. It wasn't too hard to get a job and I've been on it for about 6 months. I was already able to buy a car and working on getting my license (mao lang na kay di pareha sa pinas nga mapalit ra). Salary-wise, even mid-range salary is more than enough. Taxes are crazy in Vancouver though, so I usually do my shopping online or in the US (Seattle) which is just about 2 hours away.

If you're not too picky, getting a job is easy. If you are, it'll take time like me, but it wasn't that hard. I worked for a call center in Cebu despite having a degree, so I decided to make the experience count. I'm now working as a technical agent for a prime company. Good thing they recognized my experience coz employers here are usually picky. The case is that if it's not Canadian experience, it doesn't count. But some employers who have experienced working with pinoys (usually cebuanos), will be more that happy to give you the job.

As for fun, malls are usually too far so people tend to stay home. Makamingaw sad ang beaches dinha sa Cebu, but in turn, I've really learned to love camping and hiking in the summer. We usually go out to lakes and provincial parks to enjoy the outdoors and it's really refreshing. If you go downtown (Vancouver), there's lots of things to do from shopping to bar hopping (just be sure you budget wisely). Also the occasional trips to Seattle just so we can eat Chow King and Jollibee. XD

    Aridoasis,

We're based here in Burnaby but we've only recently immigrated here in Canada last May 2010. Apil mi sa mga gi-swerte kay both me and my wife are working right now sya sa private company ako sa government service. Originally, padung ta mi sa Regina may nalng gani ni decide mi sa last minute mo change ug city to Vancouver. Gamay ra mga bisaya dri so maayo unta magabot ta in the future.

    Cheers,

Nice to know naa sad mga istoryans diri. I'm actually in Surrey, not downtown YVR. Immigrated here with my family last November 2009, but ako ra nabiling kay out of my siblings, ako pa nakahuman ug college. As for my parents, both doctors unta but they are being asked to go thru the whole residency process and take 3 exams before they can practice, so paets kaayu. So they decided to go back and resume their practice in Cebu. My siblings will come back after graduating highschool and college respectively para maka fresh start sila.

Yeah, gamay ra bitaw ug mga bisaya dinhi nya lisud pa jud mailhan kay mapugos ta ug tinagalog kay ang mga tagalog di man kasabot nato. Hahaha.

We should start forming an istorya community here, coz maka-miss jud ang buhay sa Cebu maski dili dako atong pangita didto.
