ehh since when was Cebu really a top tourist destination? The top tourist destination in the Philippines maybe but compared it with foreign Cities it is a JOKE....

Contrary to what most istoryans/call center agents believe, the Philippines is not even a Top Tourist Destination Country and obviously not many have visited other countries, hell even visited places outside Cebu... Its tourist arrivals is a God Damn Joke... The Philippines could not compete with real top tourist destinations like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore hell even Vietnam...

The Philippines could only compete and beat Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar and even Brunei(its filthy rich, it does not care if tourists visit their country) and that says a lot isn't it?

The Philippines could barely beat Myanmar and Laos, and only by a hairline... hehehehe

Yes ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right, the PHILIPPINES (contrary to what you believe and spoon fed by our inept, fat government officials) is not a Top Tourist destination... You should get out of the country and see for yourself... Top Tourist destination my butt...

The Official Website of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations <--- please click
I hope you guys know how to read the table..
As a guide, for example in 2009, Malaysia had 23.6 Million Tourist Arrivals while the Top Destination Country AKA the Philippines had 2.7 Million... Bisag kuhaan pa ang Malaysia ug 20 Million dili gihapon ta kalupig...

Most of the foreigners I meet outside the Phils - Japanese, Americans, Indians, Indonesian even Sri Lankan have heard nice things about Cebu. And when I am asked of what's nice in Cebu, I am always at a lose of words for I feel they have wrong expectations of what Cebu is. I want to be proud for Cebu but is there any other Cebu destinations/attractions to be proud of? Well, there are nice beaches in Cebu but one has to take a long drive to reach them. Such beaches are even common to many islands in the Phils, even nicer like the beaches in Boracay, Panglao, Palawan etc.

You may push for Plantation Bay, Imperial Palace, Shangri-la... come on, those are not Cebu! They are beautified parts of Cebu by private entities that are yearning for income! I dont think they are truly Cebu. Unlike other places as Japan for example where you'll experience breathtaking panoramas, well kept public parks, gardens and temples, and bustling business centers that are truly a wonder to behold.

Please share your thoughts on how to improve Cebu and make it truly a tourist haven. Let's hope that this forum can reach our honorable government officials and may this provide them inputs on what and how to improve Cebu.
Well, even the Living in Cebu forum have foreigners, who are here for the first time, talking about their shock on seeing the horrible conditions the city has to offer... Your foreigner friend is not alone..

Try to market Cebu like this:

    1. Cebu has full of action that beats Hollywood by a mile-- People get shot on the streets for random reasons... People chasing each other then beating each other silly or well shooting each other....Foreigners can even participate in these activities of being shot, stabbed, beaten up for a simple price of, well, their entire belongings and even life...People jumping off bridges and skywalks....

    2. In Cebu, they can ride the best ride of their lifetime... They can ride the jeepney where they ride being squeezed and nearly breathless while traversing on bumpy roads, with drivers trying to drive
other vehicles off the road in monstrous traffic.... Not to mention dirty kids suddenly riding and giving them some entertainment...

Foreigners can even have the 1 and 2 package if they want to save... They can have the "RIDE" and Hollywood action at the same time... They can ride a jeepney while being robbed at knife or gunpoint... if they want more action, they can resist the knife wielding tourist entertainers and end up getting stabbed or shot... talk about entertainment... they can have those experience without going to Mogadishu... But if they want to ride a bus and experience being a hostage and even killed, well they have to pay extra and go to Manila for that...

well the list is endless and my hands are tired.....

One of the best Destination in the World? Sez who and on what qualifications has it garnered best? By a US Magazine, written by a contributor who was obviously heavily pampered and even bribed by our officials? Have you ever been out of the country? Or hell even out of Cebu?

If Cebu is is one of the best destination in the world then why does it only have a measly 200,000+ tourism arrivals? WOW, is that big enough for your own silly world? Compare that with ehhh Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok? Well for good measure how about compare it to Phuket? You can shout to the world you are the best but if practically no one visits it, then you will be nothing but a freaking joke, talking about being the "BEST" there..

Remember we are talking about the TOP TOURIST DESTINATION here as what is on the thread title... So how do we base "TOP" on? Or how do we define "TOP"? By Tourism arrivals? By Filipino/Cebuano Delusions which have resulted from years of government indoctrinations? Or a US Magazine which can easily be contradicted by hundreds of other magazines?

    @earlybirdcomputer

You talk as if the philippines is the craziest and most dangerous place on earth.. it isn't!!!
although commuting locally isn't the safest way, I really don't think that you are MORE LIKELY to get mugged than NOT.. of course, everyone who has common sense should know to always look out for themselves when in a foreign country.. hell, I got robbed in Peru!!!
Dili kay abi tourist man ka pataka nalang ka sakay sa local commute nya mag wara2x ka sa imong gibati..

If you really want to know about the world's dangerous places rather than knowing the world's top vacation places, the Philippines isn't on the top 20! Hell, it is easier for foreigners to navigate their way around here because people can understand English. Yes, although we are not all fluent english speakers, we can find a way around it.. and understand even that not all tourists know how to speak English!

    Take a look at Russia,
    20060608-Nationalists-Russia

In this crime-ridden, ex-Soviet state, no longer does the government stuff their Armani suits with rubles, but the vandals and gangsters. The Russian mafia runs amuck, there are more gangsters than police, and a Russian is assassinated every 18 minutes, averaging 84 murders per day in a nation of 143 million. The nucleus of Russian crime is stationed in the Republic of Chechnya, a region within Russia just north of Georgia. Prostitution, drug trafficking, and underground restaurants are arbitrarily controlled by the Chechens. Foreigners are kidnapped more frequently due to the higher ransom allocated. Crimes towards include but are not limited to: pick pocketing wallets, cell phones, cameras, cash, and physical assaults. From superpower to Third World country, think tanks are beginning to speculate if communism really was the cure for Russia.
and although FAMOUS for The Carnival in Rio de Jeneiro.. Brazil makes it to the top most dangerous places on earth..
For anyone traveling to Brazil, it is not a matter of whether you get mugged, it is a matter of when! Grinding poverty still lives alongside incredible wealth in a country that is riding a wave of economic growth. But with prosperity, rates of crime have also soared. Street crime is rampant in parts of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, and whilst many victims are left unharmed, having a broken bottle put to your throat for your bracelet is not pleasant. The incidences of “quicknappings” has risen in major cities. This involves being abducted and taken to an ATM to pay your ransom. If you can’t pay, thanks to mobile technology, your family is only a call away. Along with street crime, organized criminal groups have waged wars against police and public institutions that were unable to be bribed. Prison riots are brutally suppressed, drugs and narco-terrorism claim civilian casualties and if you survive all that – the piranhas are waiting.
Even the countries in the Carribbean have dangerous places..
Haiti makes it to the lis as it is the most dangerous and lawless countries in the Carribbean..
think about the next cruise you're joining!

Even in the stinking rich country of Saudi Arabia.. although it is relatively safe for the locals there,
how can a foreigner feel safe in the nation with anything short of an armed team protecting you

and if you are really wanting to know what makes a country A TOP DESTINATION, try going to MEXICO.. no doubt a world-class tourist destination..
In recent times it has seen a rapid increase in shocking violent crimes, mainly due to the feuding drug cartels. Their violence has put an increased risk on the safety of locals. Since January 2007 there’s been 8,330 drug-related murders in Mexico, 50% of which came from Ciudad Juárez. The city has 130 murders reported per 100,000 inhabitants.
and will it surprise you if I tell you that the USA is part of every list there is regarding the most dangerous cities in the world.. Although not ALL the parts of the US,
the citizens don't just leave their doors unlocked and they are always very vigilant even if they know they are in a relatively safe neighborhood..
To name a few of the USA's most dangerous places are Detroit, New Orleans, New York

If you don't believe me, try googling the most dangerous places in the world and you'll know i just got those articles there..
I've been blessed to have been well-traveled and there are only very few places that can make you feel safe.. Singapore is one of them while traveling in MALAYSIA definitely scared me because a lot of places are hostile, they look at you like you are a criminal on their holy land, and plus they cannot communicate with you in english (although there are those who speak english in KL but not as many if you would compare it to those who understand english here..)
