    Um let's see...

    Sexually molesting children = normal.
Contraceptives, condoms, premarital *** = abnormal.

    Catholic Church = normal?

The Pope was actually voicing out and speaking out against the times because what we all know as evil is now being considered normal.

For example, cheating is evil. But a number of people especially students are now considering it as normal, a normal part of student life.

The pope's message actually dwells on relativism. The controversial concept that there is no such thing as good or evil, that everything is just relative.

This is dangerous because people will tend to view as evil only the things that make them uncomfortable. There are things that are "evil" or "bad" per se but because people enjoy doing it, because they are not uncomfortable doing it, and that they have been doing it all throughout their life, then it becomes good.

You need to take it in the context also of what the Pope was trying to shield the Church from, the widespread allegations that many priests were engaging in inappropriate *** with minors. Hence, it is perfectly understandable that people would think the Pope was rationalizing paedophilia by his peers when he says that "society is increasingly tolerant of paedophilia" which can easily but construed as ergo... its understandable that some of our priests have been touching children inappropriately.

And you totally missed the point of the angry victims here. The pope is wholly out of line in saying that society in increasingly tolerant of paedophilia.. which society is that and which people? That's an absolute load of crap, no country in the world is tolerant of paedophiles. Society is disgusted by paedophilia and most people find it completely revolting. The Church on the other hand, which coddled paedophile priests and silenced their child victims could more accurately be said to have tolerated it. Maybe the Pope is merely projecting his view of the Church onto society, or maybe he's trying to blame society for influencing the priests to do evil, or maybe he is just deluded? I'm having a hard time grasping what point the Pope is really trying to make here by making such a ridiculous statement about society.

What is really happening is that societies (in the west especially) are becoming increasingly intolerant of the backwardness of many religions.
