It's completely fair to say AMD cannot match Intel's performance in the high end market. On the other hand, AMDs lower end cpus are very efficient and pack a lot of power for their cost thus providing great value for money.
What I mean is that AMD has lower power consumption. Intel currently dominates performance but if its power consumption or low power build go for AMD processors.

    ^^ agreed

this thread is really funny.. mga AMD fans jud oi, anyways you shouldn't compare the wattage of high end processors vs the low end of course low end would win in terms of power consumption why not compare both low end procies instead, and who would buy a high end rig for just downloading and watching videos purposes not unless he's into video editing and high definition movie(this would cost him a bunch of cash for sure)..

hahahaha, ana jud na! di jud lagi magdaug ang Intel ug AMD! naa ra man gud na sa interest sa taw. pero kung overclocking jud, Intel is the best!

@dartzed: im no fanboy, actually im taking advantage of both platforms. its was a long time ago even mayb a decade ago that amd actually was a power/heat sucker, but as technology improves i could no longer claim it to be as uv stated. bar graph shows that even amd now has an efficient low power/ heat cpu. as long as amd and intel continues to battle each other of who is better.. the more it is for us users to be elated as we are the beneficiary of their new technology and both are really improving in their own terms.

@all: this has become OT. lets not forget TS only ask for a torrent rig not a comparison of high perf and/or overclocking benchies

peace out and merry Christmas to all!

fanboy or not what we want really vary it depends ra jud na sa imo gusto.. i was addressing based on the TS concern and obviously he's a bit budget wise consumer a high end rig probably isn't his kind of choice but who knows he might change his mind but then he'll be facing his main concern of high electric bills..

    2. never chose AMD products since all of their processor are power suckers(no wonder they are cheaper than intel's)
    3. when choosing intel processors don't go beyond 4 processor type a dual core will do(saves you from high electric bills)
    4. look for LED made LCDs, cuts power consumption by 50%-70% better than the normal LCDs.
    5. do not use home theater sound system of course(a 2:1 speaker system is enough creating a blasting sound effects, a 35watt speaker will do)

    hope this will help..

^^ which do u value more: single threaded tasks (gaming) or muti-tasking?
Personally, for more general use, i'd pick the Athlon 640.
What about a 720 or 740 bay? it should be the same price.
