kyle_nexus diagram is correct basically all of what we design.

    nternet ---------server

    pc1 pc2 pc3 pc n

making hub/switch "ON" all the time pc n get connected. ;p whoaa thanks to the replys and all. btw, if the server connected to 384kbps what will be the connection speed of pc n?
That is not a secret. It has always been that way. hehehe.
the hub switch is always on.. the setting for always on internet connection is on your router. Connection speed will still be the same-- only shared.. so the more computers are using the internet, the slower it gets. If only one computer is using the internet.. it'll still get full access to the bandwidth

DSX: dili lagi independent connection from switch/hub. to extract the connection it will look like this.

    server
    |
    | |-----------client2.1
    | |
    |_____client1______client2______client3______clien tn
    |
    |_____client1.1______client1.1.1
    |_____client1.2______client1.2.1
    |_____client1.3
    |_____client1.n

its more like OCTUPOS wiring sa electronics.

you said kyle's diagram is correct.. then it is a normal configuration.

the one that you have above is unconventional.Â* I believe client1, client2, client1.1, client 1.2 and client 3 has 2 LAN cards?Â* I can't really see the need for such configuration where as they can just connect those directly to the Switch--- unless the switch is lacking ports.. then this would be an unconventional solution...
then again.. basing just on your diagram.. i still could not understand how it works. you said dili independent... so it means dependent sa hub/switch pero sa imo diagram wala man lang hub/switch

A repeater component to boost the signal strength? Every device that does the job always has a "repeater" component.

There is a very popular device in CISCO curriculum called passive hubs. The only problem is ... there is no such thing as a passive hub. Who here has actually seen a passive hub as opposed to an active hub?

Right no one. It exists in myth and literature only.

EDIT: Just to prove my point, someone does make passive hubs. 800 dollars for 8 ports. I wonder if "passive" is a feature.

bai hybrid...just wanna ask where is ur hub/switch based in ur daigram

DSX is correct....client1, client1.1, client1.2, client2 maybe used 2LANcard and shared the internet.

yeah i agree with tolstoi! .. UTP is using 2 pairs of wires then the other 2 pairs were spare.. kung mag bus topology ka coax ra jud ang advisable ana and mao rapud na ang mka support ana.

with due respect sa LRE, thats what tel comp is using right now but still you'll need a device for data translation.its because the data running on that cable need to be tranlated, so that you could use it whether on voice or a data.

telephones have a built in converter thats why we can hear and talk to other party. dba kung mag dsl ka or mag internet we need a modem. in order to access the net.

well my buttom line is that we cant use a splitter on UTP unless we'll be using a hub or switch. on coax cables we can split the cables using sa T-connector.

ngano bus topology imo gusto pre... mas maayo man ang star topology... kung ani na setup mura kag nag syagit sa bukid inig abot sa ubos hinay na kaayo... i recommend star topology try use switch pre. DO NOT USE TERM NETWORK SPLITTER instead of ROUTER/HUB....

why not put a router? isolate the network of client1, make subnets, then establish a routing table for your other clients. i think it's simpler this way.
