Regulating/banning imported meat?

sir, farmers can only hold off pigs to market for 2 weeks at most. its a live animal and it will be oversized by then, thats why they have to sell. you cant hold off pig like a hardware store and hoard it? its being released, problem is carbon will just buy 5 out of 10 that is in stock. and why would they sell the pigs at 50 pesos, its like shooting yourself in the foot? as i said, prices went down 30 pesos farm gate. and how many pesos did the retail pork go down?

will you deliver 100 kgs of fish then 30kgs ra ang mahalin? are u gonna sell your fish for P20 ? maybe if its really old and no one buys for a year.. and would you ever do it again? i bet not. its like shooting yourself in the foot.

Its all about COMPETITION....

if you want to bring down prices..... PUT IN MORE SUPPLY
if you want to increase the price.... DIMINISH the SUPPLY

that is the LAW of SUPPLY and demand.

you always mention farm gate price vs. retail price.... true market vendors still jack up their price...

but if one vendor drops the price others will follow.
again its all about collusion among vendors
the same collusion among HOG RAISERS...

anyway I am enjoying CHEAPER FRESH pork meat.... because of imported meat

Point No. 2: Is it legal or Not? legitimate suppliers have permit. Everyday they get one to sell if they don't have then do not buy from those as you cannot be sure of quality or where they are from. The legitimate products had undergone several inspections

the imported products serves as a barometer for the prices of meat to stay at a minimum.

For the hog raisers:Rather than whining about banning why not take this as opportunity to learn how to compete. I think this is the problem of some people who are into business. When they are earning they just take and take money but they do not innovate or think of new ideas on how to develop or improve what they have. imported meat(fats) existed more than 5 years ago here.. they just whine because new players in the market came. This is the world of business. You have to compete!
The local hog raisers I don't think they are losing that much. The imported meat are mostly fats not lean meat. So they are still in demand BUT they don't like the fact that they cannot raise their prices as much as they want. Why only fats? because the lean mean quality declines over a period of time compared to the fats when frozen. Bacteria? this is why we have to learn about sanitation and food handling.all the food we buy are infested with them. it's not bacteria free. Here is a situation for you to ponder. When you dine in a restaurant/carenderia even if they buy a good meat you still end up with food poisoning if the meat are not properly handled. and if they bought bad meat do not eat it as you can smell it before u taste it.

This is a matter of choice for everyone. Buy in shops that you know have good quality meats.

I KNOW the PIG RAISERS are FORMING a CARTEL like our OIL players.

last year, farm gate price for pork is 135 per kg carcass. in which the butcher sells for 170 to 180 per kg.

today farm gate price is 115 per kg. and carbon price is still 170 to 180 per kg. they even mix those imported meat which they buy at 70 per kg and still sell at 180per kg.
SRP of meat should have been at 150 per kg at todays price.

did you compute how many middle men are there? it is not always farm>butcher>retailer>consumer
other times it is
farm>buyer>butcher>retailer>retailer>consumer
farm>buyer>buyer>retailer>consumer
Not all the pigs come from Cebu other times you have to get from another islands(visayas/mindanao). that would also affect the price

it is not the farmers that is benefiting, it isnot consumers also... but the meat traders. the meat traders doesnt want to ban the imported pork, its the farmers... i think the editor is miss informed about the facts

The farmers will sell with profit, the buyer/supplier/retailer will get also mark up to cover the cost. the consumer on the other hand can choose not to buy if they cannot afford

1. imports come in, bringing the price very low
they cannot bring price that low or they cannot recover the cost. Do you know how many taxes and red tapes from government there are?
2. some farmers stop raising, they stop imports.
3. prices soon go up beacuse of shortage, so farmers produce again
they won't because there is higher demand but they cannot provide
4. govt, thinks there will be a shortage and
5. back to number 1.
Unless you have a hog farm, slaughter house and your own shop that's the only way i can see the price down and even those big companies they still try to find ways to keep cost down...how do you think they can do that if the hog farm supplies are also expensive? it's gonna be a big circle about global economy

if the govt will regulate imports for the next 5 years, i see price stabilizing and lowering itself beacuse the local farmers will be competing agiants themselves to sell the produce.

sir, i dont think your familiar with how we the trade goes on. the farmers are always at the mercy of traders or byahero, they call the prices and jack them up.. now vendors on the other hand doesnt want to bring down the retail price even if the purchase cost goes lower. hence for the high price.

where do you buy your cheap pork as u said? i dont know any vendor bringing down the price?

if your talking about virginia pork shop, its a local farm, and the price they are selling is the true price of pork now. which is 150 to 160. not 170 to 180 in carbon... again mix with imported fats.

Have to agree with this, not to mention the bacteria that comes with imported meat. I think the local meat industry we have here is less unsanitary compared to the imported meat, coz they have factory farms abroad. Here I think we have homegrown and actual farms for the animals.

New rules in handling frozen and chilled meat and meat products will take effect on December 15.

that is a good news that they will implement new guidelines for the sale of imported frozen meat.
This way the public will be safe.

The reason why imported are very cheap is that this are the parts that are not being consumed by 1st world country. The cost of this parts are already added to the cost of the prime cuts. This are junk to them and they have to dispose of tons and tons of them.

I saw that the boxes are dated 2008 and mga 2 years na diay ni sila.
The problem are consumer are not being told that about this and they just buy since they are cheap.

If we continue to import this and not regulate this how can our agricultural industry develop and provide us with food security. Due to the increasing population in the world and the effect of global warming food shortages are very common. Fields that used to produces crops are destroyes either due to drought or flooding. We will always have shortage in our foods biskan rice, corn, pork, chicken, egg or biskan uban pa if we continue to just import when there is a shortage instead of resolving the issue of developing a better agricultural industry.

Only a few are benefiting importation and those benefited from this are already have lots of money. While lots are depending on the local industry for their daily needs. This are the livestock grower, farmers, feeds millers, laborer, veterinary suppliers, traders, slaughter house, market vendors, etc......
