cheaptech, price of live pig is anything but fixed, it changes weekly if not even daily. i think you are refering to carbon which is somewhat fix, murag plete sa jeep, dli na gyud nu ubos hahaha.

hope i have enlighted you guys on how the pig markets work in the phils

carbon should have brought down the prices to benefit consumers. that is what the farmers want.

also just for your info, you wont see imported porkchops, hams and shoulders because the prices are high in foreign countries. you will only see pork feets, head and fats being dumped here and sold mixed with fresh meat.

    Epoaxlan,

    Pls buy your pork at
    1. virginia pork shop - barato
    2. SM savemore - its frozen from mindanao, some locally
    3. monterey - mahal lng
    4. cebu meat shop - barato
    5. gaisano grocery - dont know the price but its local
    6. magnolia, swift, bounty - all local

expect more of these direct from farm to meat shops to open as carbon has not bring down the prices of meat to the right price.

AGAIN your LOGIC that importation will kill the PIG INDUSTRY is shortsighted.

IF we always Protect our PIG PRODUCERS they will grow LAZY and KEEP PRICES HIGH.

I KNOW the PIG RAISERS are FORMING a CARTEL like our OIL players.
They Fix their price among themselves to the detriment of CONSUMERS.

Hi cheaptech pls read carefully my post above.

last year, farm gate price for pork is 135 per kg carcass. in which the butcher sells for 170 to 180 per kg.

today farm gate price is 115 per kg. and carbon price is still 170 to 180 per kg. they even mix those imported meat which they buy at 70 per kg and still sell at 180per kg.
SRP of meat should have been at 150 per kg at todays price.

it is not the farmers that is benefiting, it isnot consumers also... but the meat traders. the meat traders doesnt want to ban the imported pork, its the farmers... i think the editor is miss informed about the facts

-its not the farmers enjoying but the traders and the butcher at carbon

    - i think this is the cycle
    1. imports come in, bringing the price very low
    2. some farmers stop raising, they stop imports
    3. prices soon go up beacuse of shortage, so farmers produce again
    4. govt, thinks there will be a shortage and
    5. back to number 1.

if the govt will regulate imports for the next 5 years, i see price stabilizing and lowering itself beacuse the local farmers will be competing agiants themselves to sell the produce.

sir, i dont think your familiar with how we the trade goes on. the farmers are always at the mercy of traders or byahero, they call the prices and jack them up.. now vendors on the other hand doesnt want to bring down the retail price even if the purchase cost goes lower. hence for the high price.

where do you buy your cheap pork as u said? i dont know any vendor bringing down the price?

if your talking about virginia pork shop, its a local farm, and the price they are selling is the true price of pork now. which is 150 to 160. not 170 to 180 in carbon... again mix with imported fats.
    3.
I don't know where you get your survey..

BUT I THANK the IMPORTED meat for BRINGING the PRICE of LOCAL PORK Down.

If not for IMPORTED meat.... PORK PRICES will BE in excess of 200 per kilo this coming CHRISTMAS....

You know when this issue was brought up with the media...
IT WAS the PORK CARTEL who ATTACKED the IMPORTED meat.... without ANY LABORATORY Proof....

Its LIKE (Falsely) ACCUSING people.... of COURSE the MEDIA rode with the ISSUE... But in the end the media understood.... PEOPLE have to EAT... the CHEAPER the BETTER!!!!

I don't think you have gone around enough to check the prices.

You can really find BARGAINS in FRESH Pork meat. Because they ARE FORCED(Even if they don't like it) to Compete. That is the BEAUTY there.

and Guess what. I Know in some wet markets prices are still high...

    DO YOU KNOW WHY??

Because the HOG RAISERS are LIMITING the SUPPLY!!!! instead of SLAUGHTERING 50 pigs a day... THEY just slaughter 20 pigs a day...

SO LAW of Supply and DEMAND.... Less SUPPLY means higher price...

WHY DON't THEY FLOOD the wet market....
THAT should BRING the prices down... BUT NO they won't do that.... THEY want HIGHER PRICE... so they COLLUDE among themselves and LOWER the slaughtering per day

Again the LESSON is to compete. GLOBALLY.
if WE PROTECT these HOG RAISERS... THEY JUST become TOO LAZY... since they will know PEOPLE will have NO CHOICE...

BANNING Imported MEAT means GIVING NO CHOICE to Consumers...
    THAT is never GOOD

AGAIN why don't HOG RAISERS FLOOD the wet MARKETS...
GIVE the consumers a CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!!!!!

SLAUGHTER so MANY Pigs in a day... PRICES will go down... BUT WILL the HOG RAISERS ever do it?
    I think NOT!!!

The way the market work it... If CARBON says give us 20 PIGS.... if the HOG RAISERS will send 50 pigs... expect prices to DROP

But you know the hog raisers will send to CARBON 15 pigs..... again LESS Supply means higher prices...

    - u just cant send your pigs if you dont have a buyer. you ask first kun pila ang order. then you deliver right?
    - pigs will die in the truck if stayed too long, you cant also return them to the farm to bio security reasons. thats y u get orders first.

But you know the hog raisers will send to CARBON 15 pigs..... again LESS Supply means higher prices...
sir, farmers can only hold off pigs to market for 2 weeks at most. its a live animal and it will be oversized by then, thats why they have to sell. you cant hold off pig like a hardware store and hoard it? its being released, problem is carbon will just buy 5 out of 10 that is in stock. and why would they sell the pigs at 50 pesos, its like shooting yourself in the foot? as i said, prices went down 30 pesos farm gate. and how many pesos did the retail pork go down?

will you deliver 100 kgs of fish then 30kgs ra ang mahalin? are u gonna sell your fish for P20 ? maybe if its really old and no one buys for a year.. and would you ever do it again? i bet not. its like shooting yourself in the foot.

    what did I say

I said S&R has FRESH Pork MEAT... its understood as LOCAL..

Again Thanks to imported MEAT... PRICES are going down...
You know if the price difference of local meat vs. imported meat is just 5-10 pesos per kilo
for sure consumers will buy the local fresh meat.

But the difference is too big to ignore
