You don't need a DNS server, since you're already paying for a mail hosting service, they should already have their own DNS server in place. This is what you need to do:
- Assuming you've already finished setting up your server, give your server details to your hosting company, and these would be the sub-domain (used for your emails) and your server's IP.
- Tell them to make your server as primary MX and their server as secondary MX. By doing this, your mails will go directly to your server and if your server goes down, your hosting company's server will be able to receive your mails until your server goes up again.
- You don't need to set up your own SMTP relay so that you won't have to deal with security issues, you can opt to use your hosting company's SMTP relay for the time being. Later on, you can decide to do your own relay if you wish to do so.
So your setup then would be:
incoming mail server setting : mail.yourowndomain.com
outgoing mail server setting: smtp.yourmailhosting.com
