for some reasons, LED's black appears grey no matter how adjustments are made... at least for the cheaper brands...

OT: AOC has bad support...I had a very bad experience with their support. Long story short = I let them fix my monitor, they sent it to Manila, I had to pay almost 80% of a brand new monitor price for a component which was damaged; I let them sent it back here, I let a local technician to fix it...costs Php30 for the part, It's still good and very much alive now.

I'd stay away from that brand. And that's because of its poor support. Get a better brand.

I dunno if it helps pero by "adjustments" do you mean color calibrator? kay naa ko calibrator if anyone is interested. (Php 150.00 ra to have your monitor calibrated)

Edit: It could also be because of local dimming vs edge lighting which is really positioning of the diode. This determines better blacks or contrasts for that matter. Here, local dimming is better.

in terms of color calibration, how the LED compared to the LCD?

Mas better ug contrast ratio ang LEDs but better contrast ratios DOESN'T necessarily translate to better color accuracy. Also, better luminance ang LEDs.

To get things straight, LEDs are LCD technology. What we are really talking about here in this thread is backlight technology. Standard LCD displays use Florescent (CFL) backlighting while LEDs of course use Light Emitting Diodes. When you talk viewing angles and color fidelity, its more of the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) Panel Technology and NOT the backlighting that is in question. Meaning both regular LCDs (ones using CFLs) and ones with LED backlighting essentially have the same viewing angle when using the same TFT technology which is (in all likelihood) Twisted Nematic in this case.

To sum it up: poor viewing angles and color inaccuracy is a limitation of Twisted Nematic (TN) TFT-LCD technology rather than backlighting (CFL vs LED).
If you want better viewing angles and color fidelity (at the expense of cost, slightly less effective blacks and response times) go with Parallel Vertical Alignment (PVA) or In-Plane Shifting (IPS) TFT Panel technology.
