ANGELES CITY -- A call center agent in Clark Freeport was tagged as suspect in the brutal killing of a woman who was found beheaded inside a hotel room here on Saturday.
Police identified the suspect as Adonis Carino Reyes, 30, a call center agent of Sutherland, and a resident of Fiesta Communities, Barangay Tabun, Mabalacat town.
Carino was tagged as suspect in the slaying of his girlfriend and co-employee, Kathrina Fernandez Gantan, 22, of Ubas Street Filipiniana Subdivision, Dau Mabalacat.
Police said Gantan was decapitated and her body was found inside the bathroom of Room 518 at the Miyabe Court in Barangay Pulung Maragul here last Saturday.
Reyes was arrested in Barangay Dau Monday afternoon.
Police Station 3 Chief Inspector Romeo Castro said Gantan’s relatives were able to convince the suspect to accompany them to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to report that the victim was missing.
“Pinalabas namin na nagpapasama yung mga kamag-anak sa CIDG para dun i-report na
nawawala nga si Kathrina at dun na nga lumutang yung suspek,” Castro said.
Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista said the suspect was positively identified by several witnesses including a bell boy, hotel supervisor, and a tricycle driver.
The witnesses told police investigators that Reyes left the hotel around 9 p.m., two hours after the he and the victim checked-in.
The suspect allegedly told the hotel employees that Gantan was taking a bath and that he will buy something from the grocery.
The tricycle driver disclosed that Reyes was carrying a bag when he left the hotel.
“Nagpahatid po siya (suspect) sa Dau. May bitbit po syang bag na parang sako at may zipper.”
Gantan’s relatives earlier sought police assistance to locate the victim.
Police then showed the victim’s uncle a cartographic sketch of the suspect, who turned out to be her boyfriend.
Gantan was identified by relatives because of her complexion, pants, and other personal belongings.
Reyes vehemently denied the accusations saying he did not kill her girlfriend. According to him, he was working when the crime was committed.
“Hindi ko magagawa ‘yon. Aalis na ako dito kung ako ang gumawa,” Reyes said.
Reyes said the victim informed him that she was being threatened by some people.
“Tumawag po [ang girlfriend] ko sa kin sometime last week, umiiyak siya. Sabi niya may nananakot daw po sa kanya,” the suspect said.
The police are now coordinating with officials of Mabalacat town and homeowners association at the Fiesta Community where Reyes is residing for the possible recovery of the victim’s head. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
