Filipino maids in Hong Kong sacked
    China National News
    Wednesday 25th August, 2010
    (IANS)

Filipino maids working in Hong Kong are being sacked by employers angry over the deadly hostage crisis in the Philippines, a news report said Wednesday.

Eight Hong Kong tourists died in a chaotic shoot-out Monday as police in Manila tried to end a 10-hour siege by an armed former police inspector who took tourists hostage on a bus in protest at his sacking.

Unions representing Filipino maids told South China Morning Post they had received 'several' reports of maids being sacked by employers angry at the deaths.

Other employers have posted messages on internet bulletin boards saying they intend to sack their maids in retaliation for the deaths and urging other employers to do the same.

A spokeswoman for one of the maids' unions said, 'We are also angry with our government ... I hope the Hong Kong government can explain to local people that it is not the fault of Filipino maids.'

Dolores Balladares-Pelaez, chairwoman of the 6,000-member United Filipinos in Hong Kong union, told the newspaper she feared the situation would get worse in the days ahead.

we already know that before PNOY sit as our president our country is already been abuse by the previous pres,in short PNOY is only starting to sweep all the dirts left from previous administration and trying to put all things in order, but sad to say we cant expect all good things will come on his administration, but honestly we already see some little changes hope this will continue for better.

good point sis, instead of playing critique, we need to work together and not point fingers at each other

All Presidents encounter trials. It's not how unlucky they are, but how they deal with the trials that shows their character. Even George Bush Jr. was redeemed when 9/11 hit and he acted decisively. Prior to that he was unpopular and wouldn't have been reelected. So sometimes trials are blessings in disguise for strong, decisive leaders. The amateurish way the hostage situation was handled was made worse by the way our President acted on TV. He looked so foolish!

I'm so disappointed by the people who are still blaming PGMA for this in some way or other. She is no longer President, so kindly move on with your lives and focus on the failures of the current one. Just because he tells you he is cleaning up government, doesn't mean he really is. It is still as corrupt as ever and as proven by this crisis more incompetent.
