Well, the papal Nuncio seems to have exposed the real GMA...

Papal Nuncio hits spate of killings in RP

    Article posted July 16, 2006, 3:05 pm

Papal Nuncio Fernando Filoni, the Vatican's envoy to the Philippines,
raised the alarm on Sunday over the growing number of unresolved cases of
murder committed against journalists and political activists.

"I am surprised to see that in the Philippines there is still an activity
of high incidence of political violence against those who professed
different political ideologies, like~Ejournalists, columnists and
    writers," Filoni said.

Speaking at the University of Asia and the Pacific, Filoni said the
incidents of killings are disturbing despite the abolition of the capital
punishment. He said the killings "unduly delay" the ability of the
    Filipino people to grow.

Human rights groups said at least 700 people have been killed since Mrs.
    Arroyo became President in 2001.

While he lauded Mrs. Arroyo's decision to abolish the death penalty,
Filoni said the spate of killings raises questions on the government's
    agenda.

He said the abolition of the death penalty shows the government's
"profound sense of humanity" but the killings contradict what the
government wanted to project to the world.

"We practically abolished the death penalty and yet we are not respecting
or implementing the rights of the [people]," he said.

Filoni said there is still hope for the Philippines if government leaders
will be more concerned for the plight of the poor and the marginalized

OT: this thread is all about Archbishop Ramon Arguelles' comment “Lahat naman nandaya, e. Natalo lang ’yung iba sa dayaan.” (“Everyone cheated anyway. Some people just lost in the cheating.”)

the news together with the link you posted was way out of topic. maybe you need to open a new thread for it. I think it belongs to Death Squad strikes back thread

my take on this issue: maybe they should not have had that message out in public. with the church's influence on Filipinos, these type of discussions should have been left at the dinner table and should not have gone into print. it would just create a lot of questions among their fllock, it would only cause division and lastly, what were they thinking? but in the end, maybe they have a different agenda behind this issue that's why that statement got circulated.

just shakes my head in disbelief.

If that's the case... ngano na issue man to ang pagpanikas ni Marcos sa una? nga mao na hinoon rason ngano napahawa siya.

tungod kay dili nila maconvince ila kaugalingon nga GMA did not cheat... because the Garci conversation is very clear. They are just clinging on the lame issue that cheating is ok and it's normal. Oh well... why are we demanding a fight against corruption? Isn't it normal and fit to our time? When all of us are fighting against poverty?

oh well... a priest is still a man.

saying that “Talaga naman nandaya, e. Pero kahit nandaya, maliwanag naman na si Presidente ang nanalo. Hindi siguro one million (votes) pero siguro mga ilang hundred thousand.” (“Of course, GMA cheated. But even if she cheated, clearly she won the elections. Perhaps not by one million votes but by several hundred thousand.”)

all I'm saying is, if they (CBCP) thought GMA cheated then they should say so with firmness, no excuses. if they think she didn't, then they should express that sentiment and not straddle on both sides of the fence trying to be politically correct.

please don't compare it with Marcos' situation 'coz the church was clearly on the people's side but in Arroyo's case, they're (CBCP) only making it difficult on all the Filipino people suggesting and issuing that there was cheating but she won the elections anyway kinda statements.

and with regards to the Garci conversation as being clear, the impeachment process is ongoing let's wait for the verdict. or you would then say, 'Erap didn't have his fair chance" and so on and so forth.. tsk tsk.. pls spare me from that.

sori to disappoint you OMAD, but that is FK's main course of discussion here..always making a parallel of every political scenarios [particularly about PGMA's] to the past regimes of ERAP and MARCOS.

i'm just comparing the CHEATING issue... was just questioning what's the difference between cheating done by Marcos and the cheating done by GMA. (as the bishop admits)?

I just find it ridiculous hearing this lame excuse about cheating... just like my classmate who made an excuse to my teacher telling her "IMO MAN GUD SALA MAAM KAY NI GAWAS KA".

if the Garci conversation ra ang basihan nato... bisan kinsa pa ingnon, naa jud tikas. Pero yep i'm still hoping that the impeachment process will push through para just like ERAP naa jud siya panahon mo tubag sa pasangil.
