For me....

hi, Pein! welcome back...dili na diay ka ban dodong Pein? hehehe...
regarding the verse you quoted. are you saying nobody can be called "Father"? so how then, should we address our own fathers? tawgon lang sa pangan? isn't that disrespectful kung basehan lang sa atong culture? mangutana ko Pein, unsay tawag nimo sa imong papa?
regarding your last paragraph, are you implying that it's okay to call someone "father" as long as papa nimo siya? kung mao, eh di mu contradict diay sa verse... kay niingon gud... klaro kaayo: "Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."
klaro kaayo o... NO MAN. NO ONE. WALA. as in NOBODY. so unsa man gyud? don't contradict yourself again, PEIN!
nganong na holy man na? my answer is, I DONT THINK SO.
when Jesus Christ said, "And call no man your father upon the earth", he is talking spiritually.
Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
see? so spiritually speaking, BAWAL TAWGON NIMO ANG BISAN KINSA NGA IMONG AMAHAN. pero literally speaking, sa imong amahan nga dis a gikan, natural tatay gud na nimo tawgon jud na nimog papa!
Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
unya kanang mga pari, nganong tawgon mana sa mga katoliko ug "father". amahan diay na nila literally?
sabot ka sa akong punto?![]()
...and call no man your father upon the earth.
nya spiritually na hinuon? ang kanang POPE spirit diay na? of course literal gyud.
define LITERAL: actual being or reflecting the essential or genuine character of something.
it's okay calling the POPE father. afterall, it's just a name.
himo-himo sad ka da.![]()
What the Popes say about themselves:
"Union of minds requires... submission and obedience... to the Roman Pontiff, as to God Himself" (Leo XIII)
What the first apostles said:
"To the elders among you I appeal as a fellow elder" (1 Peter 5:1)
What the Popes say about themselves:
"The Pope... is Jesus Christ himself, hidden under the veil of flesh (Pope Pius X)
What the first apostles said:
"Men why are you doing this (offering sacrifices to Paul, Barnabas and the apostles)? we too are only men, human like you..." (Acts 14:14, 15)
What the Popes say about themselves:
"I am God on the earth" (Pope Pius XI)
What the first apostles said:
"As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. 'Stand up,' he said, I am only a man.'" (Acts 10:25, 26)
What the Popes say about themselves:
The Pope is addressed as "Our Most Holy Father."
What the first apostles said:
"And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one father, and He is in Heaven" (Matthew 23:9)
I interpret such as more on the spiritual leadership sense not being physical or directly meaning the Pope is God. He is a spiritual leader, we call him father as we denote "father of a flock". A flock of believers. Flock meaning the church. He is the father of all Catholic churches. The Holy adjective may be associated as in Christian belief that the Pope is anointed with the Holy Spirit. A man pure of heart and spirit.
Now this is the difference, when I pray to God the Father, the Father means very different to me. I say "Father" and mean it in my heart differently as with saying biological father. The intent is different. If you guys dwell too much on just one scripture, you will find many more contradictions in the Bible as you could imagine. The word "father" has been mentioned in the Bible countless of times to denote biological father. This scripture should not be interpreted literally, the same with a lot of other scriptures in the Bible. The Bible is not a literal book. You will grow crazy if you treat each scripture literally. What the first apostles said:
"And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one father, and He is in Heaven" (Matthew 23:9)
