Jesus' residence is in heaven. His creations' (including us) residence is on earth. we were once in close connection with God but because of the sinfulness of man, a gap lies between earth and heaven, God and man. now, sinfulness is a ticket to hell. each and every human being has that ticket and no one is ever exempted. Jesus came here on earth, human in form, still God but did not choose to exercise His Godly privileges. He came here to tear out all our tickets to hell. He even knew that He will suffer and die under the hands of those He created and by that death, a bridge connects us again to heaven IF under our own voluntary decision and reasoning, we would choose to take that bridge and follow where it leads. now regarding to why He has to come back, Jesus is going to set judgement on all creation. not all of us chose to cross that bridge for sure. some directly chose hell, some directly chose to cross the bridge, some professed faith but practiced hypocrisy. God sees everything and we'll gonna have to face the consequences of our actions here on earth. all details of Jesus' return can be read in the book of revelations. i encourage you to try reading it so you'll fully understand. you might even be surprised that some of the things mentioned there are gradually happening nowadays.
