@hitch
if it was faith base? Galileo would have been burned right because he could be declared heretic... then how come he wasnt burned then? ...i doubt your argument! murag lagpas ra kaayo!![]()
It was faith-based. Read the QUALIFIERS' REPORT and judge for yourself. The QUALIFIERS were a commission of theologians, to whom the Inquisitors refer matters of heresy.

Assessment made at the Holy Office, Rome, Wednesday, 24 February 1616, in the presence of the Father Theologians signed below.
Proposition to be assessed:
(1) The sun is the center of the world and completely devoid of local motion.
Assessement: All said that this proposition is foolish and absurd in philosophy, and formally heretical since it explicitly contradicts many places the sense of Holy Scripture, according to the literal meaning of the words and according to the common interpretation and understanding of the Holy Fathers and the doctors of theology.
(2) The earth is not the center of the world, nor motionless, but it moves as a whole and also with diurnal motion.
Assessment: All said that this proposition receives the same judgement in philosophy and that in regard to theological truth it is at least errouneous in faith.

So, why wasn't Galileo burned at the stake, like the fate which befell Giordano Bruno? I can give three reasons: 1) Galileo had powerful friends like Pope Urban VIII; 2) At the time of his trial, Galileo was already 70; 3) The Roman Catholic Church was slowly losing power in Western Europe, owing to the spread of Protestantism...and that PERHAPS saw the rise of a friendlier Pope like Pope Paul V or the friendly Archbishop Piccolomini...MAYBE THAT PLAYED A PART IN THE LENIENCY SHOWN TO GALILEO. Or maybe GALILEO was JUST PLAIN LUCKY to have all these factors converge. But I don't think you can deny that Galileo's persecution and house arrest was a faith-based matter. We say, pronounce, sentence, and declare that you, the above-mentioned Galileo, because of the things deduced in the trial and confessed by you as above, have rendered yourself according to this Holy Office vehemently suspected of heresy, namely of having held and believed a doctine which is false and contrary to the divine and Holy Scripture: that the sun is the center of the world and does not move from east to west, and the earth moves and is not the center of the world, and that one may hold and defend as probable an opinion after it has been declared and defined contrary to Holy Scripture. Consequently you have incurred all the censures and penalties imposed and promulgated by the sacred canons and all particular and general laws against such delinquents. We are willing to absolve you from them provided that first, with a sincere heart and unfeigned faith, in front of us you abjure, curse, and detest the above-mentioned errors and heresies, and every other error and heresy contrary to the Catholic and Apostolic Church, in the manner and form we will prescribe to you.
Furthermore, so that this serious and pernicious error and transgression of yours does not remain completely unpunished, and so that you will be more cautious in the future and an example for others to abstain from similar crimes, we order that the book Dialogue by Galileo Galilei be prohibited by public edict.
We condemn you to formal imprisonment in this Holy Office at our pleasure. As a salutary penance we impose on you to recite the seven penitential Psalms once a week for the next three years. And we reserve the authority to moderate, change, or condone wholly or in part the above-mentioned penalties and penances.
This we say, pronounce, sentence, declare, order, and reserve by this or any other better manner or form that we reasonably can or shall think of.
So we the undersigned Cardinals pronounce:
[signature of seven Cardinals]
do remember that the Bible is not a science book
common misconception
we go to science to explain to us the physical universe.. the how, then when, the what
we go to faith to explain to us the why, and everything else that science cannot explain
in short: faith answers what science leaves behind
Nice one hitch....
keep it coming bro..
(I'm left behind--back reading)
I noticed you went from BIBLE to FAITH, as if both were interchangeable terms.
Very well then, Bible has the answers. Just like what I've said in Page 52, I HAVE THE QUESTIONS. In case you want to catch up with my BIBLE LESSONS IN REVERSE, I've covered points 1 to 15 in page 52, and points 16 to 19 in page 72. And thanks to your cue, I shall continue with points 20 to 23, which will all deal with the RESURRECTION.
There are four problems with the RESURRECTION account. Here's the first one:
20) OTHERS HAVE RISEN FROM THE DEAD BEFORE JESUS
- ELISHA RAISES THE SON OF THE SHUNAMMITE WOMAN FROM THE DEAD (2 KINGS 4:18-36...click here to read the story)
- SAUL RAISES SAMUEL FROM THE DEAD (1 Samuel 28:15)
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me
by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am in great distress,
for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has
turned away from me and answers me no more,
either by prophets or by dreams.
Therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do.”- The bones of ELISHA were touched as a DEAD MAN was being lowered to the grave AND the DEAD MAN came alive (2 Kings 13:20-21).
- Moses and Elijah rose at the time of transfiguration (Matthew 17:3)...remember, the transfiguration occurred before Jesus' death.
- The saints rose before the resurrection (Matthew 27:51-53).
- Jairus daughter rose from the dead (Mark 5:21-43).
- The famous Lazarus, who had been buried for four days, rose from the dead (John 11:1-45).
- A widow's son from Nain rose from the dead (Luke 7:11-17).
- Elijah raised a boy from the dead (1 Kings 17:14-23)
All of these people rose before Jesus did. So by the time Jesus did, this was actually a rather common occurrence.
Myt not be that much detailed. But for me faith is everything. Likewise sa science. Bible gives generalize details to us. Faith for me in god gives us peace. Son't be to rediculos.!
Another problem with the resurrection is the conflicting accounts...
21) CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS OF THE RESURRECTION
John 20:1-12
Matthew 28:1-10Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”
So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb.
Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.
Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there,
and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.
Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;
for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
Then the disciples went back to their homes.
but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb
and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
Mark 16:1-8Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”
So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
Luke 24:1-11When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body.
And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.
And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.
And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.
And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”
And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Check the following observations and cross-check with the above passages:But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.
And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.
And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,
that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”
And they remembered his words,
and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,
but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
a) What time in the morning did the women visit the tomb? Mark says "when the sun had risen". John says when it was yet dark.
b) Who came? John says Mary Magdalene. Matthew says Mary Magdalene and the other Mary. Mark says Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, and Salome. Luke says Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, Joanna and the other women
c) Was the tomb open or close when they arrived? Luke says it was open. Matthew says it was closed.
d) Who did they see at the tomb? Matthew says an angel. Mark says a young man. Luke says two men. John says two angels
Were they inside or outside the tomb? Matthew says they were outside. Mark, Luke and John says they were inside.
Were they standing or sitting? Luke says standing. Matthew, Mark and John say they were sitting.
