yes almost all the pure breeds around is a result of prior crossbreeding... but in attaining the "new breed" status, the new breed was able to attain a fixed and consistent genetics. which is what is lacking in ASPINS right now. the precedent question really here is - what and how is an ASPIN breed? what is its breed "components"?
Exactly!meaning purebreds are a strain of a specie that "BREEDS TRUE TO ITS TYPE" up to its 4th generation or so.
As to the components and mixtures... that, geneticists, vets, canine orgs and others have to settle and agree upon... to come up with a new characteristics...and make them 'fixed'. I think that's how canine orgs guard the stability of a certain breed... to minimize crossbreeding. I'm not sure, but I think the shihpoo breed is not yet officially recognized as a distinct breed. It's just a matter of time for shihpoo owners to be busy registering their pets to PCCI...
actually bai,not "minimize" but rather prevent coz they dont promote crossbreeding unless for health reasons needed or so which will be approved first by the responsible committee.parent canine clubs role in the canine society for example the AKC or PCCI is to: 1. Registering purebred dogs,2. Publishing a monthly (or quarterly) journal which lists championship points by each dog, offers a wide variety of statistics about the dogshow game & provides informative articles, 3. Authorizing dogclubs as show giving entities, 4. Educating the public about dogs in general, 5.Sponsoring medical research relating to dogs, 6.Sanctioning dogshows & approving dates & location of shows, 7. Approving & educating dog show judges. & 8. Representing the its country at international meetings & seminars.
the shi-poo is not a breed-both in progress or 'under' development, etc.it is either accidentaly or intentionally produced to suffice the "desired" looks needed by its "breeder" it along with a hundred or so "designer" dogs are crossbreds of 2 or more different breeds such as the PUGGLE (pug + beagle)or the LABRADOODLE (lab + poodle),in case of the shipoo-its the shih tzu + the poodle.a crossbred does not have a stabilized gene in that it cannot produced its type consistently.thus it will not be accepted for registration by parent clubs.
That was what i was thinking...the word prevent... which I believe is really uncomfortable to our ears... as far as health reasons are concerned, the risk is even more greater in dogs whose parents come from the same bloodline.
And this is also happening in Cebu... the so called "inbreeding."
"Here's the female puppy of my sire. Call me if she starts her second heat." This is very common.
This is not to say we should promote crossbreeding imprudently, but at least... one should be aware that, occasionally in our efforts to guard and protect "purebred dogs;" it is somehow leading us to status quo rivalry... There are even questions like, "what is the best dog breed?" No one dared saying, Aspin. There is also a trend in manipulating what used to be the FUNCTIONAL anatomy of a dog into AESTHETIC. You see them plenty in dog show competitions.
Again, we should be aware of this trend of mentality. And yes, we still should promote the stability of purebred dogs.
pero according to resources online, even shih tzu is believed to have been a crossbreed of pekingese and a tibetan dog. so crossbreeds now, have the possiblilty to become a recognized breed in the future.
or perhaps all of them
greater? i dont think so.
by definition, thats not inbreeding. inbreeding, or close-inbreeding is the mating two closely related dogs.
whether pedigreed dog or aspin, that kind of (in)breeding is detestable.
in each breed there is an agreed and universally recognized standards... and it is this same standards that judges in dogshows are supposed to adhere to. they judge each dog as to its proximity to its breed's standards. i emphasize "supposed to" coz we know for a fact that judging is subjective and is far from ideal, esp. so if a particular judge is unreliable.![]()
