Default USA: Unemployed Man Wins Senate Nomination --- Without Campaigning

Share lang nako ni, since I find this really amusing, and something that Filipinos might relate to:
Unemployed military veteran Alvin Greene wins South Carolina senate nomination
An unemployed military veteran has stunned Democratic Pary bosses by winning the nomination to stand for South Carolina's senate seat – despite not even running a campaign.

By Nick Allen in Los Angeles
    Published: 8:45PM BST 10 Jun 2010

Alvin Greene, 32, lives at home with his parents, raised no money and had no campaign website, staff, leaflets or signs.

But he still won the chance to represent the state in the US midterm elections in November with more than 100,000 votes.

His victory has puzzled and embarrassed the party after it later emerged he is also facing a criminal obscenity charge.

His opponent Vic Rawl, 64, a veteran South Carolina politician and judge, had been considered certain to get the nomination, only for Greene to win by 59 per cent to 41 per cent.

Confused Democratic officials, most of whom had never even met Greene, put his victory down to his name being first alphabetically on the ballot paper.

Worse was to come when they discovered that their new candidate had been arrested at the end of last year.

He is accused of showing pornographic images to an 18-year-old female student on a computer at the University of South Carolina campus, before suggesting they go to her room.

Greene has been charged with "disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity" but has yet to enter a plea or be indicted. If convicted he faces a maximum five year prison sentence.

The leader of the state Democratic party immediately asked him to step aside but, in a further twist, Greene is refusing and plans to run against incumbent Republican Senator Jim DeMint in November.

Greene said: "The people have spoken. We need to be pro-South Carolina, not anti-Greene. That percentage of the vote is not luck. I need my state and national party to help me. I don't have any signs."

The candidate lives in the small, rural town of Manning, South Carolina, and has no mobile phone or computer.

Greene faced more controversy after it was reported that he was kicked out of the Army last year after serving as a supply specialist.

He had spent a total of 13 years in the Army and Air Force. Greene responded that he left because "things just weren't working." James Clyburn, a Democratic US congressman from South Carolina, said election officials should investigate who paid Greene's $10,400 (£7,000) fee to stand.

He said: "There were some real shenanigans going on. I don't know if he was a Republican plant. He was someone's plant."

Mr Greene later said that the $10,400 (£7,000) election fee he paid was his money. He said he was honourably discharged from the Army but did not explain why.

THIS, MY FRIENDS, IS THE MOTHER OF ALL UPSETS!

Wala siya trabaho. Wala siya nangampanya. Wala sad gani siya mga resources. And yet, this man won their Senate primary.

In the Philippines, nuisance candidate na ang tawag ani sa mga tao. And yet, nakadaug gihapon siya. And the fact na nakadaog daw siya kay iyang pangalan ang nag-una sa balota?!

Here's a video for a hilarious take on this event:

This demonstrates a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic.

It's one thing to vote for the underdog. But it's another thing to vote for someone you barely even knew. This guy never even did any campaigning in the past. He's more of a Vetellano Acosta than a Nicanor Perlas.

Try watching his interviews online or in the link I gave you. Tell me what you think of him after seeing it.

And with Greene winning the nomination with that as a possible reason, siguro valid na gyud ang belief na nakakuha ug daghan boto si Acosta gikan lang kay number 1 siya, bisan kung wala gyud siya effort na mangampanya.

this reminded me of acosta as well. ang alegre pa jud sa kang acosta dili lang kay wala siya mangumpanya, disqualified na jud siya sa comelec. it's just that when the disqualification came the ballots have already been printed.

Pero naa man kaha nag-endorse nimo. This guy, as far as I know, doesn't have an endorsement.

And seriously? Wala mo nangampanya. Why man? College student council?
