Nearby planets (and the moon) are too bright for Hubble's optics--in fact, it is programmed not to look at Venus and Mercury, because both planets are sun-oriented with respect to earth, and the Hubble cannot be pointed towards the sun. But it has been indeed used on Jupiter, esp. during the Shoemaker-Levy 9 cometary impact in 1994.

maayo tingali gamit sila ug mga filters or unsa ba, para mapuslan ang hubble pagstudy nearby planets.

maybe indsutrial imaging will do. or any nga mahuna-huna-an. hehehe

i better leave it to pros na lang.

Question is, unsaon nimo pag taod sa filter? Retired na ang space shuttles this year--nothing will service Hubble for the next few years unless a replacement servicing vehicle is developed. SpaceX's Dragon could be a candidate, pero wala ko'y nadungog nga any plan to use it for servicing Hubble, Chandra, or any of the space telescopes out there.

But then, no worries...maobsolete naman ang Hubble once this is launched...

Thought I'd share a video I watched over the weekend. It's a 57-minute lecture by a NASA astronaut, where he shares his experience on what life's like as an astronaut, what space is like, about space debris, about gyroscopes...and did you know that the Hubble can see up to 12 billion years back in time?

Eye on the Universe: Final Mission to Hubble

I enjoyed watching this video (it's well presented), and I hope people who share the same interest will find it an eye-opener too.

The VLT can top that! Try thirteen billion years back in time:

    This thing is amazing.
