very YES on your second question. you've just called it japanese because it came from japan or maybe its pre-installed os is in japanese language.

try "Sytem Information"

im not sure if it will show u it,.. but just try it

goto:
1.) star
2.) All Program
3.) Accessories
4.) Sysem tools
and System information should be right there,....
just look through "system summery"

if u dont see it there,..... restart ur comp. and it will show u information bout ur hardware,....
if u still dont see it,... go to the set-up and press the "DELETE" bottom

(i would try this myself in comp. but i got other things running,... so i cant)

What speed is your unit?

Mostly 266 Mhz up to 650 Mhz uses PC100,
700 Mhz-1.3 Ghz uses PC133
Higher is DDR.

Not all JAPANESE LAPTOPS with JAPANESE OS accepts ENGLISH OS--- this depends upon BIOS capability.
