    Parent’s warning about ‘leftist’ orgs
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    First Posted 05:37:00 06/01/2010

My son is an incoming freshman in one of our metropolitan universities. He will be new in the city but we already gave him the forewarning that he should concentrate on his studies and school activities rather than be enticed to join school organizations which are known to be affiliated with communist organizations.

This letter is also a reminder to other students not only for “probinsyanos” like my son but to all students whether freshmen or not, to shun student activism in their schools.

Student activism is good if it will be for the good of students and improvements and development in one’s place of learning. But if it already involves national issues, and agitation, and joining rallies and demonstrations against the government, it becomes a different story.

Students are meant to go to school to get an education. Joining left-leaning organizations and even illegal fraternities oftentimes causes students to lose their opportunity to become graduates and earn a college degree and be productive citizens in the future. Students should avoid being recruited by illegal organizations which will surely cause their downfall. We are facing this come the school opening.
