I highly recommend the pentax k-x. Although an entry-level camera, it has great reviews and are consistent with my friends experience on their own k-x units. I recommend you try it first and get the feel of the camera. Naa sa camerahaus dinha sa SM Cebu pwede ka maka-try.

My personal opinion on the advantage of owning a pentax DSLR camera:

1. In-camera stabilization (SR). Other brands have it sa lens mao na mahal. Sa pentax naa na sa camera body so all lens na ma-igo sa imong camera naa na'y image stabilization!
2. A wide-variety of k-mount lenses pwede magamit!
3. Bang-for-the-buck. Barato gyud and very competitive with other camera's out there.

My own personal disadvantage for pentax DSLR:

1. AutoFocus on low-light
I own a K100D, K10D (sold it) and a K20D. So far isa ra gyud akong issue sa pentax camera and that is the AF (auto-focus) issue on low-light situations. Naay workaround hinoon by going manual (old school) but advantage pud kay paspas na kaau ko mo manual focus karon. I have heard that AF issues on new pentax DSLR's has improved on the K-x and K7 models.

Pentax K-x is one of the entry-level cameras today with top performance on High ISO performance.

Pentax users use the term weather-sealing or weather-proof instead of waterproof
Protection against water, dust and other harsh elements. Pentax has done a good job on this area.
Other DSLR enthusiast may not be too concern about this feature though pero for me this is an added advantage.

Pentax DA* lenses pud are weather-proof (DA lens pud yata).

Personal experience: Sinulog 2009. If naka remember mo nag ulan to for a few minutes to an hour during the parade. Ang uban naka DSLR nagpasilong na, gitabunan na plastic bag ilang camera or any other rain protection but me and my trusted K20D and the DA lens installed was still firing away

medyo dili lang kaayo daghan available local variation sa lenses dire sa cebu unlike canikon but im excited with my k-x to arrived soon- cheers!
