or do you mean that they must undergo some kind of board exam?
yes sir, some kind of exam to determine a person's capacity to make an intelligent choice and his/her immunity from being bought. someone who can be easily swayed and affected by surveys instead of choosing based on his/her own conscience will not be given a license to vote...

they're selling their votes! how democratic is that? do you really want to keep sensitivity over human suffering, abuse & exploitation? i say the right to vote preceded with the right to education, otherwise its a vote based by ignorance, indifference & irresponsibility which apparently came from a vast majority

you know what guys, it would be much easier and more peaceful if we would filter our candidates rather than filtering the voters.

dili tugotan molansad ang mga walay capacity to govern and lead a nation.

instead of imposing laws that would discriminate the lower class voters.

in this way, every candidate is a good choice.

If people truly wanted Erap, how is that a downside of democracy? Clearly democracy in this case worked in many people's favor since Erap did not win. For those who wanted Erap, then democracy did not work for them. Democracy does not favor the learned, the wise, the intelligent.

Sure I find it upsetting, but I am one person. If only those who paid taxes were able to vote, then what you have is an aristocracy ... a nobility. That I am not in favor of. That is worse than Erap buying votes.

On second thought, this would be a great idea. There should be coupons credited to the amount of taxes paid. My family has paid more taxes in the Philippines than most Filipino people, therefore, even as a family of American citizens, we too should be able to vote, since after all, we are paying taxes. Individual corporations should be able to get coupons so they can participate in elections. Foreign corporations could effectively buy the governing class of the Philippines. The Philippines surely needs the guidance of such learned corporations with names like Exxon Mobil, British Petroleum, Lockeed Martin, Sony ... after all, the poor cannot be trusted and don't deserve a say. What I say is indeed radical, no question about that, but it's at least an honest knee-jerk reaction to Erap's amassing of 8million+ votes.

But seriously, who wins is not an issue. That the election is conducted in a fair and legal way is the issue. Everything else is water under the bridge. If one cannot prove in a court of law that Erap cheated the Filipino people out of their democratic process, then he has as much right to win regardless of what elitists such as you or others might believe. If Erap did cheat, then how is that a knock against democracy?

Personally, I believe I should be emperor, but that has it's own problems. Most of you would be in the fields making bricks to finish my statue.
