Too bad...
Q8300 seems like a good bet but i read quite some good reviews on the E8xxx series.

ok ra na xa nga procie 8300? quad core mana better nani png gaming![]()
wala nay q9550 bai, lisod na pangita-on. mao man unta ako plano paliton to replace my e8400.
even q9650, q9450, q9400 lisod na pangitaon.
ang q8400 or q8300 nalang ang mga available kaayo.
i wanted to try a quad, pero na discourage ko sa mga results sa gipang google nako in gaming benchmarks coz gaming man jud ako. the e8400 even beats the i7 920 in some games.
sa gaming importante ang clockspeed and cache which the e8400 has lots of. crippled ra kaayo ang mga q8xxx in cache... it only has 2x2mb whereas the e8400 has 6mb shared by both cores. the only core2quad that i would dream of having is the q9650 which is basically two e8400 in one i think, but its too expensive and no longer available.
disappointed ko sa ako pagpangita ug quad coz daghan ga sulti jutay rajud games ga take advantage quad, even crysis mas mu labaw man ang higher clocked duals than low clocked quads. of course the story would change if you overclock the quads... but on the other hand, the duals overclock even better. im just speaking in a gaming point of view.
on to the topic. ako ika suggest kung small budget you can go socket 775 core2duo e7500 or socket 1156 core i3. ang core i5 or i7 mahal mahal pa.

comparable ba ang E7500 sa Q8300 in terms of gaming? price point, difference is only 1.5K+ and E7500 only has 3MB L2 cache.
imho the e7500 would beat the crap out of q8300 in games that do not use more than two cores.
e7500
2.9ghz
1066fsb
3mb l2cache shared between the two cores
q8300
2.5ghz
1333fsb
2x2mb l2cache (2mb shared between two cores, and another 2mb shared between the other 2 cores)
i think 90% of games do not use more than 2 cores, so the specs that matter most would be the clockspeed which the e7500 has very high. the l2cache also plays a big role in gaming performance. one core of the e7500 can use up to 3mb l2cache becoz it is shared between the two. while one core of the q8300 can only use up to 2mb l2cache becoz divided man ang 4mb into 2x2mb l2cache.
in theory, i go with the higher clocked dual cores.
but in practice, i am contradicting myself becoz i am selling my e8400 3ghz and i will purchase a q9400 2.6ghz. but at least i will overclock it hopefully to about 3.4ghz so at least it can beat the stock speed of my e8400.
nice. thanks for the reply. i opted for the Q8300 and will OC it in due time![]()
