Default Teodoro camp slams ploys to shut him out of race

Teodoro camp slams ploys to shut him out of race - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

MANILA, Philippines – Administration standard-bearer Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. may just be the next Harry Truman, Fidel V. Ramos and Barrack Obama, according to his camp.

Slamming what they called an "orchestrated ploy" to shut Teodoro out of the presidential race, his camp warned independent pollsters on Sunday that they might end up with "eggs on their faces" for trying to condition the minds of unsuspecting voters even before the casting of the first ballot.

"History is on the side of Teodoro," his spokesperson and the director of the G1BO media bureau, Mike Toledo, said on Sunday.

"Only one needs to hark back to Harry Truman's landslide victory over Thomas Dewey in the 1948 elections... and Barack Obama's brilliant win over more popular bets to see how things can seriously go wrong for overconfident armchair strategists," Toledo added.

During the 1948 US presidential elections, public opinion and political pundits predicted that Truman was to be defeated by Dewey, a Republican. But Truman won, overcoming a three-way split in his own party.

Toledo also drew parallels between Teodoro and Ramos, noting that the latter emerged the winner in the 1992 presidential elections despite his persistent poor showing in poll surveys.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – In defiance of party head Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, 179 political leaders in Cebu’s 1st district allied with the One Cebu party on Saturday signed a manifesto to support and campaign for Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar instead of the administration party-endorsed candidate, Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro.
The signatories include six mayors, five vice mayors, 61 councilors and 105 barangay captains. Two candidates for mayor have also switched support to Villar.
“We, the undersigned Mayors/Vice Mayors/Councilors/Barangay Captains of the 1st district of Cebu will pledge and render our unconditional support and actively campaign for the victory of Manny Villar in his presidential bid this coming May 10 elections,” said the manifesto.
Cebu’s 1st district consists of the cities of Naga, Talisay and Carcar and three towns of Minglanilla, Sibonga and San Fernando. The district has a voting population of at least 300,000 out of Cebu province’s potential 2.4 million votes.
Representative Eduardo Gullas of the 1st district is a known Villar supporter but his Alayon party has an alliance with One Cebu for the local election.
The six incumbent 1st district mayors who signed the manifesto were Socrates Fernandez (Talisay City), Val Chiong (Naga City), Patricio Barcenas (Carcar City), Lionel Bacaltos (Sibonga), Eduardo Selma (Minglanilla) and Lakambini Reluya (San Fernando).
Carcar vice mayor Lauron Nicepuro Apura, who is running for mayor with Barcenas, and mayoral challenger Nestor Velez, who is the NP candidate in the city, also signed the manifesto.
Apura, however, denied on Sunday that he signed the manifesto, saying what he signed was an attendance sheet. But his signature clearly appears on the manifesto.
A source close to the governor said more mayors from the 2nd, 4th and 6th districts were also expected to join the “bandwagon” within the next two weeks.
“The mayors are sending a strong message—why should they waste their votes on Gibo when they know he really won’t win,” said the CDN source.
He said eight to 10 mayors from the 2nd district under Rep. Pablo Garcia, the governor’s father, were also expected to announce their support for Villar within the next two weeks.
Rep. Cynthia Villar, wife of Sen. Villar, continuously talks to local leaders to win their support, said the CDN source. She was expected in Cebu on Sunday to meet with two district representatives to woo them to join NP.
“In the next days One Cebu will be toppled down because the mayors are already moving to NP,” said the CDN source.

I don't think the other candidates are shutting him out of the race, but his own allies(in politics) are through defects, lack in support and continuous lag in the majority of the surveys.

OT: And I bet Gwen and Gibo will never punish/give penalties or even verbally go against those who defected. Like what we don't see and hear now locally. Conspiracy? You be the judge of that.

"A person close to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who refused to be named, said that in the next few days, there will be One Cebu members who will defect to the NP because of funding."

Interfaith rally for Gibo; volunteers seeking for divine intervention

CEBU, Philippines - An interfaith rally to ask God’s intervention was held at the Capitol grounds last Saturday evening by the volunteers campaigning for administration candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro.

The group, GIBOlunteers, organized the activity which was participated in by representatives from the different religious sectors and from a partylist group.

Members of the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy or ANAD Partylist and the New Guardians, Incorporated Cebu chapter joined the rally which was attended only by over a hundred people.

With songs and prayers, the GIBOlunteers and supporters expressed how important God’s involvement in the election is. They did not only pray for a peaceful election but also for the victory of their presidential bet.

“We seek Lord’s intervention to help us make Gibo Teodoro the president…” Cebu GIBOlunteers Chairman Rex Carampatana prayed. In his prayer, Carampatana thanked and praised God for giving them Teodoro.

“Wala na’y laing angay mahimong president, only Gibo,” GIBOlunteer Jessa Tapasao said in an interview. She added that Teodoro is a person who has a heart for the people.

ANAD-Cebu staff Raul Boy Carin said that their support is in the Lakas-Kampi CMD standard bearer no matter what happens. “Bisa’g mapilde mi’g maunsa, naa ra gyud mi niya, win or lose,” Carin said.

According to Carin, ANAD Partylist supports Teodoro because they do not want a communist leader. He added that Teodoro does not have a communist member in his lineup.

Carin, who is also the president of NGI-Cebu, said that the entire membership of NGI in the province is supporting Teodoro. “There are more or less 10,000 members of NGI in the province, and I’m pretty sure that they will all vote Gibo as their president,” he assured.

Just before the prayer rally would end, the GIBOlunteers danced and sang along with Teodoro’s campaign jingle with the line “Sulong Gibo! Lipad tayo.”

Although I am not a fan of sunstar or Seares, his article today is picture clear...

    Seares: How’s the campaign? ‘Great!’

ITEM One. Since January, Manny Villar’s poll ratings have kept sliding as against closest rival Noynoy Aquino’s, with the new figures (25 against 37) not giving much hope. He’s “saddened yet unfazed,” the news said. To be unfazed means not to be disturbed or disconcerted. If one is saddened, doesn’t that disturb or disconcert?

Item Two. Noynoy was reportedly “elated” by the Pulse Asia survey results. It means, he said, “the people are determined to walk the road of change.” “Elated” is moderate: his spirits are raised, he’s happy but not ecstatic.

Click here for Election 2010 updates

Item Three. The ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD, a report said, “laughed off” the comment of political analysts that its standard bearer Gibo Teodoro is virtually out of the race. (I always wonder how a news source “laughs off” an adverse report. Does he snicker, make a small he-he, or belt out a big laugh? Reporters don’t specify.)

Lakas can say Gibo is still very much in the race but it can’t refute by laughter or ridicule. Gibo’s prospects are dim, man.

    Reactions

A candidate can spin a sad or happy turn of events according to what he wishes the public to see. He can’t be too careful about how the response affects the campaign.

Villar can’t say he’s stunned or devastated by the poll numbers.

That will kill team spirit and erode the party’s support base.

Noynoy can be elated but he can’t be yippee, joyous as if the fight were over.

Lakas can’t admit Gibo’s cellar-dwelling is troubling. That may weaken further its dubious strength.

Each one puts on a mask that hides the true state. How’s the campaign doing? “Great!” “Fantastic!”
