To bushcraft enthusiast, who does not have the money to pay for trainings and courses provided by civilian bushcraft experts, enlisting in the Marines Reserve is just one way to learn all of these skills given that you have the time, passion and the spirit of volunteerism..
    U.S. Army.

as i said, the military is a good place to get free training on many things.

tasadays? do you have any information on the types of skills the PM's are learning from these people?

I have read about the tasadays but have never had the opprotunity to meet them.

that is a cool looking sling shot. I have always admired the resoursefulness of the filipino people.

bolos from scrap metal, handles from melted plastic bottles, home made guns , etc. all cool stuff.

Hello Automatic, thanks for sharing to us additional bushcraft and survivalcraft ideas. I am very interested to enlist in the Marines Reserve. How can I contact them? Can you pm me their contact details. I'm sure I can learn a lot from them because I know for a fact that our Marines are very famous in improvising stuff, modifying and surviving with almost nothing. No wonder why there's always the Balikatan every year, those US Marines are here to learn not just jungle fighting but jungle survival as well. I heard that the training is rigid and tough even for the Marine Reserves...I hope I can pass it though, I'm not that physically gifted..Anyways, thanks for bringing this up on this thread..

@Tomahawk, a friend of mine is a Marine Scout Sniper of the Philippine Marine Corps. He is now based in Palawan after a long tour in Sulu and in Basilan. He told me once that the 2nd generation Tasadays(Gen after they were discovered) taught them Cave Dwelling, Nocturnal hunting and stone tools manufacturing. He comes to Cebu oftentimes to train the Marine Reserve Force based here. I will ask him next time he's here on how you can can hook up with the Tasadays..Just prepare those malaria pills when you go there.

thank you for that. I will be back to palawan in early september. It would be pretty interesting to do the Nocturnal hunting.

I can remember reading about the tasaday back in the day.

    Thanks again and take care.

While I was away to Argao on Easter Sunday, I spotted a good hunting area for fresh-water shrimps. I kind of liked bringing some guys out there in late April and camp overnight. I will give the details later in our Facebook account.

@Tomahawk: I think he may have meant the Tao'tbato people who live on the cliff caves of Palawan. The Tasaday have never been heard to have left their enclave in Central Mindanao, much more so, migrate to faraway Palawan.
