@TS yup better read AMD's compatibility guide naa mana sa ilang site jud before ka mo palit ug mobo. Then imong motherboard if mo buy ka naa manpud ka compatible processor so there is no way nga masayop ka basta mo basa jud.

actually i have no problem on my motherboard right now...

but im just a little confused on this socket...AM2...
from articles i read before, it says that AM2 socket motherboards supports AM2+ and AM3 processors but has a disadvantage.... but what i really want to know is its disadvantage...

honestly i got a spare AM2 ECS (forgot the model) motherboard at my room, and im planning to build it again soon... but AM2 processors are hard to find right now, AM3 are easiest this to find now, followed by AM2+...

basically, any AM2 motherboard should be able to run AM2+ or AM3 cpus, but an AM3 motherboard will not be able to run AM2 or AM2+ cpu. thats because of the number of pins. it all boils down if AM2 manufacturers actually design their motherboards to support the power requirements of the higher AM2+/AM3 cpus and has bios support...

the disadvantage you mean would be running the HT speeds of AM2+(1800Mhz) or AM3(2600Mhz) to 1000Mhz, but i dont think i causes a lot of performance loss...

Mao lage maka libog sa sockets sa AMD mao pud nakasayop nila kay they didnt even solved the problems of their processors during the time they compete w/ intel. They keep on changing sockets then and that's what makes them LUGI that time. Unlike intel they only stick to LGA 775 socket until they find to solved the problem from their P4 socket.

Btw do to answer your query mas maayo jud unsa imong processor socket mao imong gamiton kay if imong processor am3 running on am2 for instance of course limited kaayo iyang capabilities where am3 can handle both ddr2/ddr3 memory controllers so sayang then penalize kaayo imong processor na am3 on socket am2 di cya ka boost.

I suggest i baligya nalang na imong AM2 na mobo then buy a new mobo nga am3 then palit pud kag am3 na processor para compatible jud.

yeah. naa na cya drawback when ur AM2 board is installed with an AM2+ processor..

All AM3 motherboards use DDR3 memory.

All motherboards with AM(anything but 3) in the socket support use DDR2.

So an AM2+/AM3 board is an AM2 motherboard with support for AM3 CPUs - and uses DDR2

DDR2 1066 limitations

The limitation about 1066 RAM and dual-channel DOES NOT mean you can't run dual-channel with an AM2+/AM3 motherboard.

It means that if you put 4 modules into the board, instead of just two, then the max speed of the RAM will be 800MHz rather than 1066.

You can still use 1066 RAM and can put in a 3rd/4th stick of 1066, but it won't run at 1066.

This is a minor thing, I run my 1066 RAM at 800 because it's faster as 800 anyway.

yup, same raw speed lang gihapon kay imo main BUS or FSB is still 200mhz x (cpu multiplier), only the HT-link will be downgraded to 1000Mhz instead of 1800Mhz, mao ni sya ang operating frequency from the CPU to the chipset(called FSB sa mga old school motherboard designs).

correct me if im wrong coz im only replying on what my stock knowledge has remembered. kapoi na research :P
