Well anyone who thinks anything declared in SALN should be taken seriously needs to be laughed at hard. No politician ever reveals the true extent of their assets in such a public document, just as no businessman would ever tell anyone how much their company is actually earning. In this country, honesty no matter how well-intended is never rewarded. If you show your true wealth, the crabs will call you "hambugero" or "kuwartag nawong".

The most laughable figure there is the declared net worth of Noynoy Aquino. Anyone who believes that figure should just be taken out the back and put out of their misery. I mean seriously!

This reminds me of a time back in college when they had a scholarship for the needy and the only requirement was to fill up a form declaring how much money your parents earned. Lo and behold everyone who "won" the scholarship had a Benz or a BMW and only won it because they misdeclared their parent's earnings. Long story short... You can force someone to give you piece of paper with numbers on it, but make no mistake, it is just a piece of paper with numbers on it.

correct on some and wrong on many points.

true, people with so much wealth will try to hide it, to escape taxes etc. etc. plus the risk of kidnapping.

second. a SALN is a public document which should be executed under oath. mao bitaw nasakpan si mikey arroyo nga naa diay balay sa US.

admittedly, it is not perfect pero daghan na ang nasakpan ana, kay wala nila gideclare sa ila SAL

It is a public document which can be used as basis to prosecute erring government officials.

hmm. unsa gani diay basis sa conviction ni Maj. Gen. Garcia nga gipamhambog sa mga giboter, (found out to be a total lie) nga si gibo kuno ang gaprosecute ug gaconvict.

wrong to compare to a scholarship application kay ang SAL is a document required by law, and can be used as basis as evidence for criminal prosecution.

What country are you living in? It may be used as basis for evidence in a criminal proceeding, but name a single case that has ever been brought to courts, much less lead to a conviction on the basis of misdeclared SALN! It is because no such case has ever been brought forward or even come close to succeeding that all the candidates, Noynoy included, treat the SALN requirement as a joke and lie through their teeth in declaring their assets, or use accounting "magic" to depreciate assets and inflate expenses. Come on, where do you live.. are you even Filipino? You seem not to know how things work here.

Maj Garcia isn't convicted yet as far as I'm concerned and the basis of his arrest is that he was caught bringing money in that defies his lifestyle check. It is not because he lied on his SALN. As I said previously, everyone lies on their SALN, if that were sufficient to convict corrupt politicians, then all of them would be in jail (I'd love that, but Noynoy should be included because he is a trapo like most of them).
