Default Steve Vai - Where The Wild Things ARe

... anyone has seen this concert ?? This is by far one of the most fascinating concerts i've ever seen, the other two are Steve Vai with the Metropol Orkest and Terry Bozzio's one-man-all-drums-one-and-a-half-concert. Pardon for this post, but i just want to share my obsession with Vai to any istoryan who also adores him. Here, Vai is with a different band, The Breed was no more due to conflicting schedules of Billy and Tony, this new band of Vai's he simply calls - the steve vai band. Mr. Jeremy is still here and so does Dave, the new one's are Bryan Beller on bass, Anne Marie Calhoun and Alex DePue on violin. I don't know what has got into Vai's head, maybe he got this idea from his collaboration with the Metropol Orkest. The intro of the concert is just mind blowing, well, forget about Paint Me Your Face, it's just chants and some signature Vai guitar screams, but Now We Run is such a fresh sound from Vai, it has a metal edge to it that will kick you in the arse. The second song would be OOOOO, I usually skip this song when I listen to it on audio, but when I saw how Vai got two violins playing in unison with his guitar is simply jaw-dropping. Next up would be Building The Church, the last part of the song is what i'm looking forward to, the one when Vai plays with his whammy bar and produces that very high pitch sound. I'm so happy to witness for the first time in clear and vivid surround ( the youtube clips are low quality ) Tender Surrender and Die to Live, I had goose bumps while staring at the monitor, I had to use my Bose earphones for this so that all the sound from the different instruments will be highlighted. But probably the best part of the show is Angel Food, it's a part of the song FireGarden Suite in his Firegarden album, it was on piano on the album and Vai has to use a software that could play that piece of music that will actually sound like a human being is playing it, but seeing it being played live, with two violins and Jeremy using that weird contraption of his is, for a lack of a better word - amazing. It's fascinating how Vai plays with an acoustic guitar, he is indeed a God. Old classics such as Answers and For The Love of God suddenly became new to the hearing with the encorporation of the violin. And talking about Anne Marie and Alex, sshheeessshh, Anne Marie's Phish Fiddle and Runty are on bookmarks on my youtube. Here Anne Marie is definetely, using my own term, YUMMY. Not just she's a goddess in the violin but she really looks so stunning. While Alex is such a wrecking ball, he is indeed the fastest violin player on earth. Bryan Beller is, well, his facial expressions are funny but when you close your eyes, his chops are killer. But back to Mr. Vai, the first song I actually saw was Freak Show Excess, i went directly to it coz in the album version it's such a monster piece of music and when finally having seen it live, it gave me a headache. nyehehehe. Whispering A Prayer made me cry, damn, when using earphones, your head is filled with sound and that kind of music sent shivers down my spine, had goosebumps and eventually i shed a tear, coz I took in the song deeply. Oh well, Vai is God. And just to share a little personal note, my 7 year old son SYVY ( named him from Vai's nickname ) can now hum-along all the songs of Vai. His fave are For the Love of God, Touching Tounges and Windows to The Soul.

.. oh well, if you're a die-hard musician, this DVD is for you.

I've only seen the vids on youtube. I would say it's really different, and some songs gave me goosebumps.
The original Vai vibe is till there but the violins gave it new life. I like it. I should get a copy of this

i've seen the concert, although wla pa gyud tanan na songs, because i skipped to the good ones (not enough time to watch everything).. nindot sad ang interview btw, naa silay usa ka psycho member na pakapin (plays lap guitar)..

wla dinhi si billy sheehan kay if i remember correctly, nag reunion concert ang Mr. Big ,my fav song is die to live (i just learned to play this song a few days back, pero dili pa perfect kay naa pai notes nga dili nako makuha, esp. mga harmonics).. ang version sa die to live diri is an extended version, mas ganahan ko sa studio version sa ending sa song & his guitar tone, at that time i think steve was using a marshall or a bogner ecstacy.. now, he's using a carvin legacy & comparing the tones, murag trebly ra kaau ang carvin (or maybe sa mix in this concert), but i definitely preferred his older tones..

sa song na fire garden suite, angel food was recorded using a software for the piano part, in this concert that part was played by marie & alex.. pero i kinda prefer the studio version (yet again) because that piano part in angel food is one of the @ss kickingiest piano riffs i've heard.. naa man gani 2 petition sa another forum na fire garden suite should be played by Dream Theater.. kay kana na piano na part, murag ma kaya man ni jordan rudess, & i agree, that would be amazing if DT would do it.. but in fairness to alex & marie, grabe sad ang ila talent, amazing.. wla naman gani na maka abot sa final day sa audition si ann marie pero mao gyud ang gikuha ni vai..

maau man sad ang bag-o na bassist ni vai, pero i've always preferred billy, kay mag gel man sila duha.. as steve said it 'billy is the best rock bassist in the world' ,season kaau sa mga jam si billy (like in G3) & naa gyud cya stage presence, murag dili gyud cya makuyawan og tukar tukar, unya kingkoy pa gyud.. & i think jeremy colsen has a lot to prove, why? because steve has worked w/ legendary drummers.. mike mangini/ virgil donati / terry bozzio/ vinnie colaiuta ,pero at least jeremy's still w/ vai so he's good enough to be there.. kusug lang kaau mo hapak murag ma buslot ang snare og ma bungkag ang hihat..

nindot kung mag acoustic si vai.. i like the song 'all about eve', pero na klaro sa concert na there was overdubs kay sa back up voice sa chorus na dapit.. but anyway most concert dvds mag overdub man gyud na sa post production pra perfect ang audio experience.. & whispering a prayer would always be meaningful for me.. b4 i've even heard it, i've read na most people who've heard it would cry & even in live concert, one post i've read was that when WAP was played, he looked at the person beside him & that person was crying.. so anyway when i first heard it (g3 w/ malmsteen) wla lang, but the third time i listened to it i was reduced to tears.. that song is so emotional & powerful.. & from now on, everytime i would hear it, most likely i would shed a tear.. & as alex said it 'whispering a prayer is different every time'.. & there's no studio version of it btw..

overall i would say vai is a great musician (my no.1 guitarist in the ranks), where the wild things are is a great concert dvd.. HD baby..

    .. nice, i have a fellow vai addict in pi2plank ...

.. i would agree that Jordan can play Angel Food. oh, i got this DVD from torrent dl, search on isohunt.com, you'll see that HD dl link. The commentaries are simply hilarious. As a drummer myself, I would say that Jeremy has evolved quite dramatically, during the g3 DVDs he was boring but with this, his expressions on the drums are very good, considering he has a very simple kit set up. And as far as stage set up is concerned, Vai has now tuned down the settings, it's very simple, just one freaking carpet on the center. I watch this DVD everyday before I sleep, nyehehehe.. vai obsession all the way.

dili ko sure pero kahibaw ko steve vai was a former member of frank zappa & vinnie also played for frank zappa.. anyway gi tan-aw nko sa wikipedia &..

'After spending most of 1980 on the road, Zappa released Tinsel Town Rebellion in 1981. It was the first release on his own Barking Pumpkin Records,[147] and it contains songs taken from a 1979 tour, one studio track and material from the 1980 tours. The album is a mixture of complicated instrumentals and Zappa's use of sprechstimme (speaking song or voice)—a compositional technique utilized by such composers as Arnold Schoenberg and Alban Berg—showcasing some of the most accomplished bands Zappa ever had (mostly featuring drummer Vinnie Colaiuta).[147] While some lyrics still raised controversy among critics, in the sense that some found them sexist,[148] the political and sociological satire in songs like the title track and "The Blue Light" have been described as a "hilarious critique of the willingness of the American people to believe anything".[149] The album is also notable for the presence of guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, who joined Zappa's touring band in the fall of 1980.'

wa lang ko kahibaw naa ba dvd ana.. i'll never forget that line sa deep purple 'smoke in the water'...'but frank zappa & the mothers, were at the best place around' =)
