Yeah, i know where ur coming from. I remembered my Lola saying that to me when I was still small right after asking her why she didn't follow the footsteps of her Dad. She simply replied, "I am too soft to be in the politics, so many demons I have to face." It's only now i've grown up that I understood her perfectly.

It's just too bad that I haven't witnessed how our public servants went around the town and "serve" their constituents with their bare hands, addressing to their needs and sentiments with humility and sincerity and most importantly, not losing their integrity at the end of the day. That would've been close to perfect

Its funny you mentioned that , your words are very close to home. I understand your Lola completely and I don't blame her, its good you see the reality of being in Politics.

On witnessing someone serve the people around him, I was fortunate enough to see not 1 but 2 people in the family serve with latter mentioned, plus adding the word both of them very Nationalistic , they love this country much in spight all the negatives around.

Hence we can only hope ... and have personal responsibility as individuals to be good citizens , hopefully ones actions may help in the long run.

If your lola is still around spend time with her and talk about it , there are many things to learn from our elders.

I hoped I could have spent more time with dad , lolo and lola unfortunately all have past to a better life.

My paternal grandparents had already moved on to their next "assignments" hehehe... twas my Lola who taught me alot about the golden age of politics in their times and that's how I was so obsessed by it when I was little until I've grown jaded and passive as I grew older. It's like my dreams went along with my Lola's passing away. At the rate we are in (politics, per se), it is such a far cry compared to what they had before like you said.

And I totally agree with one of the iStoryans who posted in here, the politics we now have speaks alot of the society we now have. Even the kids emulate what the adults have been doing. It's okay for them to cheat in exams coz according to them "the politicians are doing it anyway during elections" and this is rather frustrating coz at such an early age, they have this preconditioned mindset that being honest and dignified is simply soo centuries ago... and to think they are the hope of our future...

Beyee, don't be too passive you might be one of the few that help this City or Country move towards the right direction.

Yes it is quite sad that kids seem to see it clearly,Todays Politics, it saddens me.

A wise man once said "I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong."

Wow.. truly wise indeed I'll teach that to my kids on Monday. thnx for the quote K..

^^ I dunno if i still have it in me K coz I've been passive for years na. The way I perceive the seat of the government is somewhat cursed. No matter how noble and patriotic the person is, once he's seated in that position will eventually succumbed to its own demons. I don't want that to happen to me because I would end up tarnishing my Lolo's name. Que horror hehehe.

Well I'm glad to have passed it on... worked for me

I know its easier said than done but No one person will succumb if his heart and mind are in the right place. Yes we hear about young politicians having that hard determination to change this country and pave the way for change but most end up eating their words. Honestly, it depends on the person, unfortunately we haven't seen that person yet, May the heavens bring us the Savior.

Seriously, it doesn't take one to be in politics to help his/her community, but hey we sure would like to see someone lead us out from this cycle. Someone that implements the law, plans, work for growth to make this country matter again, vision for tomorrow, yet simple and truly has a good heart.

I doubt will have one in our lifetime but truly hope i'm wrong.

From time to time we hear about new blood entering the poiitical arena. From time to time we hail some members of this younger group as agents of change, harbingers of a new brand of Philippine politics. We once said that of people like Mike Defensor, Ace Barbers, Rolando Andaya and Migs Zubiri (aka "The Spice Boys"). Look at them now. A few years down the line they have become nothing more than the Trapos we thought they would supplant. Same old, same old.

In Philippine politics and perhaps everywhere else, people do not change the system. The system changes them.

It's not like I'm losing hope for the Philippines. As far as I'm concerned the quality of our politics and government is not the be-all and end-all of our daily lives. There's still plenty of latitude to make our lives, and the lives of others, better. Politics doesn't even come into the picture anywhere. In our endeavors, we sometimes succeed, we sometimes fail. Sometimes we pick ourselves up again. Where does politics come in there? Only very rarely. In most anything we do, where we succeed we only have ourselves to congratulate. Where we fail, we only have ourselves to blame. Where and how we pick ourselves up again is up to us.

For me therefore, politics is just background noise. There's no point in all this hand-wringing about how screwed up our politics is. We can only change things in that department by casting our votes. The pace of change, if any, will be generational.

I can't wait that long, nor should I care to. What counts in the here and now is that I do my best in my business or profession, be the best husband to my wife, the best father to my child and in everything I do, do right by me. Those are the most important things.

Sad but true K. It takes a lot of values for a person to stick to his words and not be swayed by evil opportunists around him. Don't you think GREED is the root cause of politicians going astray for what they totally believed in right before they run the nation? Their obsessed will to acquire so much has consumed them and there's no more going back but to be greedy even more.

I like how you associate politics in ur life... "a background noise"

Yeah, we can do our fair share and make a difference by making the right choice, ideal as it may sound but that's the only way to go... but then again, how sure are we that our "right choice" is really the right one? hmmm.... like u said, what's best for us to do after casting our votes, just be the best in our chosen field and instill good values to our kids or peeps around us... be a good example to them and hope that this can make a big difference
