As the Election Day fast approaches here in the Philippines, political drama and tension continuous to surge anywhere in the archipelago. Black propaganda becomes ubiquitous. Therefore, gravely disturbing and confusing further majority of the voting masses. But why is there such a thirst for political power that people (whom they refer themselves as great leaders) would go to the extent of killing each other, or worse, even unmindful of ending other’s lives like doing mass killing just so to fulfill their desires and wants? Even if my heart contradicts my thoughts, but I could say that greed is truly a great motivator.
Greed as a motivator is a double edge thing though as it presents both an advantage and a disadvantage depending on how it is being taken or acted upon. "....Greed is good in that it can be beneficial to the economy, but greed must be regulated by the government. Why? Because we often use the law to identify the edge of greed and laws are being made and accorded by politicians who, needless to say are our lawmakers. According to a journal I’ve read, “greed must be restrained for the benefit of the common wealth lest its unbridled culmination impoverish us all. Political power seems to be the only way to keep greed safely yoked to the plow.” However, the author also said that “balancing greed and power is the most momentous challenge humans face today.”
“If the political remedy for unchecked greed is to be found in the application of laws and regulations, however, it has to be understood that lawmaking and regulating are functions of governments and governments are themselves governed by politics and power. It is a mistake to assume that the object of greed is always material – frequently, its object is power itself.”
If only there is a tool that could check the intensity level of ulterior greed by each of the running politicians we have, and have this test results as one of the requirements for their candidacy application, we should have been safeguarded in a way at least, with our votes. We just have to rely with our prayers and hopes that we could choose a leader who will be guided by good virtue and dogma and one who would listen and fear his conscience.
