no, microsoft DID say that xp home is invalid ALREADY for internet cafe usage. it is instructed from the main microsoft headquarters, from the superiors as they saidOriginally Posted by oisilener1982
my suggestion is to let the already complied users(legit xp home users) to have a different and fair offering like; swap their legit xp homes for even bigger discount(if they want money), or just retaining them and focus those who are not complied yet even with the xp home before(since there are huge numbers of using pirated xp now like the piso-piso computer rental which is vaster than a sari-sari store).Originally Posted by oisilener1982
this is what i was worried about before when my family bought legit xp home but no other choice since it's only what we can afford, and not the pro version.
if i remember, rental rights was implemented in the windows98 era, and was EVEN GRANTED to xp home oem in the early 2008. now they are changing it obviously to make money, its the nature of the business though. but they didn't see the situation of their clients(the end users) CLEARLY.
the clever point of their EULA is buying their operating systems does not mean that we are owning it already, in a nutshell, we are merely just renting it. thus, they can implement what they want. they are killing more the already killed internet cafe industry here in the poor Philippines. with their so-called promo/i-cafe program from them, it is not helping(obviously to already legit xp home users) but making them double dead. ONLY they are helping to those who DID NOT comply yet with legit operating systems.

very true.
a buy-in swap is NOT even a fair option since xp home costs P4,000+ - P5,000+ while this windows7 is 2,999(promo). but since they are making money for their yearly inventory/reporting, youre right, a buy-in swap is a drastic option but still not a fair game.
indeed, they should be focusing more seriously on sorting out the vast numbers of illegal ones lurking in different areas in the city.
microsoft also has legit reasons just to be fair due to 69% piracy rate in the phils. this s one way of documenting businesses that uses orig & w/ RRA since u have to submit some documents as requirements to avail the program.
What we just like to be considered is our orig xphome OS... it was purchased at 4k+ cold cash higher than the 2,299 win7 offered.
Now, to Microsoft: pls consider recalling our xphome orig OS in exchange w/ ur win7, you can ask additional reasonable amount from us (below the 2,299). "Just don't tell us that our existing xphome OS are now void". It hurts so much considering that i have 20 orig xphome licenses.! PLs lang! Huh!
we will surely comply, what we want is just a consideration.

seriously, yes, since they and the authorities didn't give a bigger effort in eradicating the pirated users specially now that still some internet cafes and the ever known piso-piso computer rental is getting bigger and bigger. i believe these greatly affect that percentage. they were only focusing to bigger fishes but seems they failed to understand that the smaller fishes are in larger number when added up.

4. Which applications are covered by the i-Café program? What happens if I have existing software license agreements?
The i-Café program covers Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows 7, with the right to downgrade to Microsoft Windows XP.
Existing software license agreements for Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office will be retained. Additional licenses should be purchased, as required. Microsoft Rental Rights Agreement should be purchased as well, as required by the promotion.
