I don't think this thing was ever meant to be a phone. It's a glorified iPod Touch isn't it? Price is cheaper than I expected it to be so I might get one for myself.

I am disappointed however with a few things:
-No built in camera (kinda surprised by this)
-no multi-tasking (I'm really hoping they will address this on a firmware update)
-no Flash (but with HTML5, this may not be so much of an issue)

Keyboard dock is available as an accessory.

    iPad Keyboard Dock

The Keyboard Dock is a dock for charging your iPad, integrated with a full-size keyboard. The dock has a rear 30-pin connector, which lets you connect to an electrical outlet using a USB Power Adapter, sync to your computer, and use accessories like the Camera Connection Kit. And an audio jack lets you connect to a stereo or powered speakers.

I'm interested to hear what the media publishing and most especially the education sector have to say bout this. The iPad is perfect for them right? Imagine the school kids, instead of having to carry around many heavy and expensive books on their backpacks can now just carry this one multi-touch lightweight device with all their textbooks loaded on it.

If the price of the iPad would be below US$100.00, then your scenario would sound more feasable. I mean doubt it if the average kid (or kid's parents) has US$ 499.00 to shell out just for a textbook replacement.

Apple could strike a deal with the schools and the book publishers themselves to help subsidize it. So in the end, students won't actually be buying this thing paying the normal price and getting it by normal means. It will be available straight from the school they are enrolled with and the cost can just be added to the school fees they already paying.

Of course, I'm not saying this applies to every school out there. As you said, it ain't feasible. However, for the schools that already mandates their students to have a laptop (there's lot of them already here in NZ), then this could be an option or a replacement.
